  1. Totally understant Tom, but for the function these devices are required - in the bag recorder, sync to picture, the 688 wins hands down. The fact that it is is exactly the same box as the 664 means they have had this template on the table for years and filled the guts with the 664 until they were ready to roll. I now own a (heavy) analogue box that looks the same as the 688 but without the flirtatious eye-lashes. The 664 has been put out to pasture and my guess is that it will one day soon disappear from their product list.
  2. What advantage would that be? (...I'm not being provocative, - genuinely interested in this). My guess is that the 668 was always on the cards, but the 664 was easier to get out at the time to keep the brand relevant and compete. Now I wonder if they'll ever update the firmware for 664, - even the 663 offers more than 48khz!!!....I want my money back.
  3. I saw that Cheers Jon. I'll let you know if I find a cheap outlet. They don't sell them in 7 day shop. Amazon are always there,...bless em.
  4. Yes Amazon Aw, ...can't we dance around the issue for a while? Ok, I did just that and called. They're continuing their work on getting the device stable before putting every card through its paces and there is a firmware update on its way, apparantly....after which, maybe a few more will get tested. The advice (if requiring lower capacity) is to stick with reccomended models that have the same codes and build. Considering the higher capacity SD card is SDXC. that leaves one card, - the Delkin. Now I just need to go to that UK tax dodging Amazon and I'll be home and dry. Many thanks, Steve
  5. Did you read my post Jon? I need something smaller than theose that are reccomended on the site. For some reason, SD have only reccommended 64GB cards and one 16GB card which is in scant supply over here.
  6. Hi, there are only a few recommended media for the SD664 on Sound Devices' web-site and two of the three SD cards are too big for every day use: 64GB (both Sandisk SDXC) while the other 16GB card is a Delkin Devices (not many of those in UK). I mostly just need a batch of 8GB SD cards that I can hand the client at the end of the days shoot. Can anyone confirm by experience with the 664 which work and which don't? Many thanks, Steve
  7. Great to know! Thanks David. I'm ordering mine today... All the best, Steve
  8. How visible is everything on the 664 when wearing a waist-belt. for someone who is somewhat less than svelt? If you need a harness to get the kit in sight, would that make the waist belt redundant? I have managed this with a Portabrace harness, but that was a properly integrated bit of kit, - mixing and matching may yet be the way to go though, if this works. It'd be great if it does as the Portabrace is bulky.
  9. Hi, I'm interested in this as my back needs support, however, I am, to put it bluntly fat on my midriff, so will I see the PPm's, rotary faders, etc? I used the Portabrace memory-foam harness, which I like a lot for its back support spread around the hips and it does allow me to keep the bag up and visible. However it's bulky and I feel like a member of a SWAT team every time I put one on. Any advice, nmuch appreciated. Thanks, Steve
  10. Hi, has anyone here either bought or looked at the original Kortwich bag (not the bespoke "Special Bag" on display here)? http://www.filmtontechnik.de/585.html I'm inteested in Bag 800664.1 i.e. Bag for Sound Devices 664 with out CL-6 However, I'd like the features of Bag 800664.3 namely the removable front pouch, and space underneth the CL-6 for NP-1 battery As I won't ever be using a CL6 on the hoof, the idea would be to replace the space where the CL-6 might reside with a divider and RX compartment as in the first bag, - same real estate, just more useful for me. Does that make sense?...I wish I could go and have a look at these. In UK we have hasd KT Systems doing similar stuff, - less heavy and chunky than Petrol bags. Steve
  11. How are the preamps on the SD664, compared withh 552 & 788? I heard SD the 552 preamps were compromised so that alkaline batteries could be used. Hoping no such compromises are attached to this device. Steve
