It's not about if a camera should record sound or not... Neither if it's the job of the dop to do it... But just if a camera can technically handle it or not. Here to start with that topic :
-
Yes, a 30 min drive. And visiting their factory was impressive. I've never seen such a mute room / anechoic room where they precisely test their speakers. And the people are really nice .
-
PSI π we went to the factory and where impressed by their sound. We have selected 3x A23-M for L center R.

I think Jacques do the firmware updates for what he thinks is important (automix isn't for him) you allways can try to ask and he is really customer focused. He doesn't like "gadgets" but fonctionnality emproovements is something he is listening to mainly coming from customers that are his friends now. The R4+ needs FW4.0 (still beta but I didn't find any bugs) to work with the RX8+
-
Yes, in my understanding, it has the same functionality as the R4+ pots. What do you mean by HP pot ?
-
You can assign the 8 pots to the AES channels for example and so use them to solo the reciever signal. But you can't change the gain of the transmitter. Did I understand your question?
-
NO! But the equipment is so complex with interferrence from recievers and other electronics noise that I just follow what they tell me. Last time I heard a spill on the playback on a track wich was not recorded and at the end it was a faulty cable on my side. They tackled the problem and changed the pin soldering of the cable I bought in Germany. And it worked. So I don't mess with this kind of "black magic" for my understanding.

It could be a bit wider for the AES multipin out. Mine was a custom made (adapted from r4 bag https://en.vocas.nl/porta-brace-ar-sxr4-audio-recorder-sonosax-sx-r4-black.html ) but the 96wh battery needs a cut out... work in progress. The important thing with the module is : - either you don't have any mechanical contact between the R4+ and the RX8+ other than the AES/Power cables. - or you use the metal brakets given by Sonosax. I must admit that ground loops and other electronic interference is something I don't understand nor manage to control.

Arri Alexa 35 Wonβt Accept Denecke JB-1
Patrick Tresch replied to George's topic in Cameras... love them, hate them
Isn't it related to the level output of the box? I had this problem on a camera, at the end it was solved changing the level output setting of the TC box. -
Just got mine π everything works like a charm (with beta FW 4.0) I do use a MCR54 in one slot. The R4+ and the RX8+ with an Audioroot 48wh and a 96wh battery is 3.55 kg (7,8 pounds). 13hours to empty with 4x analog 48v and 8x AES in and 4rx enabled MCR54.

If you can shoot 25p use it for all : DCP and broadcast. There is no need to go 24p anymore (and since a long time) for cinema. Now if the director wants to get a "slowmotion effect" on the the film (of 1 frame per sec.????) Than it's his (strange) choice...

It has the same width than a SX-R4+ π but I wonder how much power draw it has when used in the 8 RX configuration? Is it 20W? DC input, 10 to 18V in, 3A minimum at 6.5 VDC 11 W idle, default configuration
-
I think Jacques has in mind : - Small recorder (RX4+) and modules for small jobs/productions/ where light weight and low power draw is needed (with Sonosax's state of the art electronic design) OR - Full fledge producion (ala James Bond/Avatar/1917/...) using their SX-S... mixer serie wich can be recorded on what ever recorder that has a digital input. - And he still has his music clients in mid with the SX-VT serie and even the M2D2 wich makes the bridge between big and small productions. IMHO he doesn't see the need of a new recorder in between those offers and there are still no cinema recorders that have better preamps than the R4+ (AD8+) out there. It's also getting harder to beat their performance until next technological leap.

Hello, Do you need the external battery? Couldn't you power your rig configuration for 10 hours, with the internal battery only and Hirose out from the RX-R4+? Thanks Patrick

Cudos to Sounddevices to propose an integrated sound system with new ways of doing things.

Great data base. FYI RED Mysterium, Mysterium-X, Dragon, Dragon-X, Dragon VV, Gemini, Helium, Monstro, are sensors and not bodies. The bodies are RED One DSMC1 (module based bodies) : Epic M and Epic X, Scarlet DSMC2 : Weapon, Raven, Ranger, (& Panivision's DXL) Komodo DSMC3 : V-Raptor and V-Raptor XL (wich is not yet released) But the module was delivered standard with the pack. You rarely encounter a cam without it wich is not the case with other cameras are they are optional. Without a module you can't power your RED camera.

With the R4+ you can hook 2 LC8 together (magnetically clamped) I don't know if you can do it with other machines.
-
Well I thought it would be ready sooner but some critical electronics are in a worldwide shortage clusterfuck. There are no schedule available for now...

Where do you put your mic?

Why don't you record the USB signal on your computer and use the M2D2 as an audio card? On the M2D2 you could use a delay to synch with the video signal for streaming if you use a Blackmagic Atem switcher. In relation of compression you have to test wich is the best route to go for streaming (youtube, facebook, ... )
