  1. Well so much for leads...I feel like I stumbled into a UAW meeting in the 30's!

I'm also stunned at how willing you are to let a "makeup person or PA" mic for you.

I tend to shy away from jobs that offer me a PA to BoomOp, why is this any different?

Why not just give them the whole bag with the instruction "Keep it out of the red"! LOL

To your point and confusion, this IS a religious issue as well as cultural.

In addition to the intimate sight and handling of characters by men being off-limits, we are dealing with rooms and buildings that are segregated by gender and the ideal situation would be an all female team: Camera, AC, Sound, PA to enter these areas.

So if you men know any girls that are up to the task, smack her on the rear and send her my way.

There just may be one at the next diversity training.

    ;-)

    Love ya, really

    Hugh

  2. Thanks to all who replied and even when manually holding the battery tight the unit was not "feeling" power.

The production is facilitating the Lectro service repair.  I was hoping it was somehow operator error to get me through the last few days of shooting.

Thanks go to Jeff, I do appreciate this community!

    Mic On A Stick

  3. It is most definitely coming from the fans under the body when I sniffed it with the mic.

I also considered that the fans may be dirty...now to convince camera dept...

It's not as cool as you might think with the giant heater on set so the lead actress won't complain (or walk off)

Also sniffed the drive and there is data noise going on.  It's an external hard drive after all.

Just don't ever think I heard this noise on any RED before.

Maybe we need to add more lights to our gear and give them a taste of their own medicine!

  4. Forgive me but didn't see this in basic search.

Has anyone else picked up camera noise on Red One?

This includes auto and silent modes hearing the fans.

Additionally, I am hearing the hard drive processing.

Day 10 now and seems as though it wasn't there on earlier days.

Any comments suggestions or BARNEYS for this problem?

    Thanks

    Hugh

  5. Thanks Marc,

I am trading emails with P24 and will not hear from a tech until next week regarding getting a screw.

A watch repairman got it open and verified the screw is MISSING and not inside (sad face).

They had nothing to replace it with but offered to MAKE me one for $20.

If this was more of a daily use mic I would have but TFN I can wait for P24's response.

Thanks to all in the thread

    Hugh

  6. Has anyone had to replace those tiny screws holding the element on the base?

I was missing 1 now 2!!  only 1 left holding it together.

I already wrote Sanken via web contact...and tried local screw supplier in town.

    Please help!

  7. How interesting this came up so recently!

I've been doing playback for years but none yet with timecode but I have seen it smart slated often.

TC is actually the weakest link in my kit and I have not had a lot of opportunity to shadow it, recording or playback.

I like the idea of a Quicktime movie with TC and bars, maybe that is a good way to go?

I will also look into BWFW-Pro to see if it will benefit me beyond the rare TC playback.

My playback cart includes a battery powered Anchor speaker with a passive slave run usually from my laptop.

I play the waveform from my editor (Cool Edit Pro) for it's ease of locating points and it just looks cool having a waveform that takes up the screen.  It just looks expensive.  I usually run house power as much as possible.

Due to the Anchor being internally rechargeable we can cut and run as well.  A recent video for Dwele had us walking city streets for 75% of the day.  I actually loaded the track on my Droid, put the speaker on a hand truck and walked along with the action.

It did however put a strain on the batteries of both units.  Remember to plug in at lunch!!

  8. I have a KTek aluminum shorty pole, 9ft for ENG use.

Lately bringing it out for second stick I have noticed this stick picking up broadcast radio!  WTF!

Identical mics, swapped cables etc and the determined culprit was the stick.

This is internally cabled so my first guess is something went amiss internally.

That said, I went externally wired wrapped on the same pole and still got interference.

Plugging the mic in and hanging it on a C stand does NOT reproduce the sound...

Detroit is RF hell and I know this, but today's location in the 'burbs was also picking it up.

Is this common or is there a fix for this?

    Thanks in advance

    Hugh

  9. Hey Michael.

I like the looks of your report better than the canned report that's for sure!

Sadly I did not see a posting from Brian's website nor an idea of what it looked like.

I was looking to add more data to my reports also and it seems none of us really know what the H goes into writing one?!  The BR manual leaves me scratching my head on this so I repeat the plea...

Has ANYONE successfully written a BR template they may share or provide tips?

I actually can't even find the internal one in hopes of tweaking it!

    Thanks all,

    Hugh
