  1. Thanks, Dela, sounds even more interesting once I got to the point of the plastic lid, the first thing that came to mind "Stellavox" does anyone have a picture? I wonder if this was before or after Stellavox was selling their cool mixer? dela you always come through with a world of well-explained information, Thank you, Sir. After I just wrote that reply to dela I did another search and this time I found it, funny the first time I did a search it tuned up nothing but Sony MX, I guess I gave up too soon. I see now it's well after the Stellavox mixer. Still pretty cool and a must-have for a collector. That would be a good piece to add to any Nagra collection Looks expensive and with only ten made you did well srs148 Now there is only 9 left.
  2. Yeah srs148, I know it's a big deal coming so close to having a chance to get on JBond's front page directory sorry about that. Many men have tried. I'll figure it out someday. Not sure if that's the best analogy to losing the last Nagra 1 ever made that was worth 20K though. Kidding, I know you were saying it in jest. I thought I knew Nagra's pretty well, what is this Nagra MX-4 channel mixer you speak about?
  3. I can't add the Nagra 1story to page one. It appears I can no longer add to my directory on page one. The posts are no longer numbered in blue which was the code I used to do that.
  4. Its Your story now. The last Nagra I, number 25, that was, but never made it to his hands. Thank you srs148 for chiming in with the facts of this story instead of just my endless speculation. This story is now dedicated to you. I will place it in my directory on page one. Seriously, I feel bad you were so close. Oh man, that must have been a very long two days. Like I said, who tries to make an item look worse when they re-list it other than doing it for the previous buyer that just got cheated out of it. The guy had a lot of gall to tell you one thing then list it again so soon. You must be a very easy-going guy. But really, what could you do? I'm glad I didn't get as far as you did by winning the auction, paying for it, only to be told he didn't "feel comfortable" selling it to you. That would definitely be too much for me to take. SOOO close and still got away. You win that prize. If it makes you feel any better, it was a Historic sale and you were part of it. I'll bet the seller already had the firm offer of 20K before he sent you your money back and he listed it again maybe because the buyer just wanted to make it legit or safer going through eBay. If the seller had any conscience at all, he must have been going through a real tough time in those two days sweating bullets in what to do about that offer. But for 20K on an item he wanted 400.00 for, could any one of us make up a clumsy friend who always dropped stuff? I would not want that stress either way in this situation. But in real life, the seller probably made the right decision, sorry for your loss.
  5. I completely understand the uncontrollable excitement, but wow, I would never man handle the Nagra SN with such dirty hands. 🙂 I have made boxes for things I was that excited about since I was a kid. It's like so beautiful and you can't really enjoy it enough, so you build a special box to keep it in. I completely understand why he built the box. Probably some kind of sickness we have, though I never built one before for any Nagra because I have my display case to show it off. He did end up giving the Nagra SN the utmost respect it deserves by building that special box. As I said 5 years ago when you could get some Nagra SN's for under a grand, "the Nagra SN will be the most sought-after reel to reel that was ever made, mark my words" as you're starting to see in the prices they now sell for. Thanks Mono for posting that , Wow, 5.39M subscribers he makes some serious money.
  6. Definitely, a legit email from eBay. I have seen many times that an item does not show up in completed sales if it is too close to a previous sale of the same item same seller. It may show up later, but when it does it will not show the price of what the item sold for It will just say best offer accepted, that is the norm. If it was a scam auction I would not have received a legit email from eBay and a link to follow. There is more to the email that eBay uses to let you know it's a legit email that I can show online. If I click on the link in the email (to see similar items) it brings me to this. Then click on view original item It brings you to this. Then click the completed auction the 1bid next to the price it brings me to this , showing best offer accepted and shows the fake buyers id but real number of feedbacks not the buyers ID. They never show the amount sold because it allows the buyer to resell the item without letting people know what they paid for it. This buyer will have a very hard time making a profit if indeed he follows thru and pays the 20,000.00 The only scam in this case would be the buyer not paying the 20,000.00 So maybe it will be relisted again if that is the case. Someone could have been very frustrated with the seller not accepting his many bids and said screw that and bid 20K knowing he is not going to pay it. So if you did make an offer you should have all the information that I do. Unless the part of the world where you live eBay has to follow different privacy laws. And If you click the blue title it will open up and show the description and pictures. That is the only place right now where to find the item. A scammer copies the same original auction because that is all the scammer has to go by. This second listing has 4 or 5 more pictures, and a updated description. How would the scammer get the extra pictures of such a rare item taken apart? It's real !! no scam, Did you get and email saying your bid was canceled and item was sold ? if so follow the same steps above to view the item.
  7. Well, I have been a member of eBay since 1998. I have found a lot of good deals and some very rare recorders. I don't check as much as I used to, but I do notice Nagra listings daily as a Nagra search on eBay is my home page when I open my computer. That day Dec. 29th I looked at the completed Nagra items just to see if I missed anything. I have never missed such an important once-in-a-lifetime opportunity as I did on the 29th of December. It was just hanging out there for sale for 3 hrs just waiting for someone to come along and buy it now for 1,000.00. I missed it by 30 minutes. I emailed the seller saying if the person who bought it does not follow through, I will pay XXXXXX No reply. Then I thought about it, it's complete I could clean up the paint make it look real good. Then I emailed again saying if the person doesn't like it I will pay XXXXXX. That was on Dec 30th. Never heard from the seller at any time. Ok I tried. Here are some pictures for your enjoyment. So today I noticed it was back up for sale - this time make an offer. I offered xxxxxxxx and said please counter offer. There were already two offers before me. The seller never contacted me at anytime a week ago or today so I believe the seller had many, many offers from the first auction other than from me and much higher than I offered. Two hours later I received an email from eBay saying my offer was declined. Also, because I made an offer, the amount that it sold for shows in the upper left of the email. And it sold for $20,000.00. At least it's better than knowing I lost it for 1,000.00. I could have cleaned it up very nicely. A complete Nagra I, the first time I ever saw one for sale. If you followed my posts about the Nagra I, I said I thought I read somewhere they made 25 of them. Nagra's video says they made about 12 , wrong again. This is the first one that I have seen with any kind of serial number 2522 I take that as out of 25 made, this is number 22. Sure would have rounded off my collection but my xxxxxx offer doesn't compare to $20,000.00 I always said there are some big time Nagra collectors out there, with very big wallets. These pictures were not included in the first auction. Maybe the seller did this to try and change the buyer's mind? Or when the seller sold it the first time, he didn't disclose the corrosion to the buyer as far as I can tell and he took it apart to show pieces and screws are missing. Both auctions are on ebay completed Nagra sales. You decide why the added extra 3 pictures below were in the second auction and not the first. Who tries to make what your selling look worse by taking it all apart? Most likely the seller knew it would go for a lot of money and wanted to be completely up front. who knows. If I won that first auction for 1,000.00 these pictures below would not have changed my mind in the least. 20K wow. Only on Nagra Stories.
  8. Another one of Jbond's true to life stories. Only found here on Jwsound . Friday night 9:20 my wife and I are looking through movies on Netflix. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest comes up. My wife says oh, let's see that!! Ok, 52 seconds into the movie, the absolute first # 1 credit comes up "director of photography Haskell Wexler, a.s.c." I jump up, spilling my martini … that's Jeff Wexler's father!! My wife says don't yell, then said, really?! Yes, that's him! Just goes to show, you movie guys live on forever through your work. How many people can really say their work lives on forever?
  9. Sorry, just had to post this again, over 50 million views, at least 10 of them are mine. What perfection in a live setting, 40 or 50 years later. When the drums kick in with the ride cymbals, orchestra and harmonies in the background, Damm
  10. Nice post, less than 2 months before he was taken from us. Thanks for sharing. His best album too. The year after I was married ,The Beatles were everything to me when they first came out mid 60's. when I was 10
  11. How do you know, It's only recording on one side? There is only one output speaker on the Nagra E, so it works as it should. Or, If you mean you want to add the output of the Nagra E to a stereo, if so you have to output to the input on both channels of the stereo. Or, and most likely you mean it's only recording on one side of the tape? The Nagra E is not a full track recorder. You have both sides of the tape to record on, in mono. Or, Maybe I'm the one missing something here.
  12. Philip - Then it's a good thing I included that bottle of scotch in the picture, more true to form. Looks like the unseen agent had BIG drinks also. I should say, I drank the bottle trying to get those f-ing cigarettes to smoke on their own. The damn cigarette would not give off enough smoke to show up in the picture. Did you know you have to puff on a cigarette to light it and get it to smoke well? You can't just hold a match to it in the ashtray, even after puffing, there's very little smoke after you put down the cigarette. I finally ended up using model train smoke oil to keep it smoking so the camera could catch it. Did you know if you put too much or too little Christmas tree-smelling train oil on a cigarette it will either burst into flames or it won't light at all? Let's just say I lost many 30-year-old (newly opened) vintage cigarettes that day experimenting. A big learning curve in capturing sitting-cigarette smoke. I should have drunk the scotch. The whole house smelled like ashtrays and burnt Christmas trees that day. And I don't even smoke!! 😡 In the end as much of a hard time I had with the cigarettes, I do think the smoking cigarette adds life to the picture and puts it in the moment.
  13. I was looking for an old email and came across an interesting list of what I bought since 2002, and what I paid. Like this, POSTER NAGRA JBR SURVEILLANCE TAPE RECORDER 12X15 MAX BID $39.99 WON $24.00 Wow, I forgot what I paid so little for it. A glass-framed Nagra JBR poster $24.00 starting bid back in 2008. I was the only one that bid on it. I was probably the only one on eBay at the time that knew what it was. Never saw another one - probably only a handful produced. What's more shocking to me was my esnipe high bid was 38.99. Looks like I didn't care if I won it or not at the time. How many could there be? What was I thinking? I didn't own a JBR at the time and probably figured I'd never have one. Then in 2017, I was told this below by a very relevant and important person in the FBI, now retired. It was an honor to have communications with him. "As I advised, xxxxx xxxxxx told me that Nagra New York received a letter from the FBI advising that these recorders were an Interception of Communication (IOC) device and if Nagra continued to advertise these units, there could be legal repercussions. I don’t think Nagra advertised the recorders in the USA again." Now, to me the JBR poster is Priceless @ $24.00. The JBR recorder pictured in Nagra's glass-framed poster looks like it's sitting on top of the glass, outside of the picture - not a cheaply made poster, but high quality like everything Nagra produces. The poster depicts a dark covert setting. Of course, that's my JBR on the bottom that is actually sitting on top of the glass for size reference. The way the poster was done being zoomed in on the JBR, Nagra really made that JBR pop out in the poster if you compare the two recorders. Actually, Nagra's JBR poster with the newspaper and black background gave me the idea to make my own picture, the Nixon Watergate photo, made with the newspaper of the day, the recorder of the day, even the ashtray of the day monogramed with The Watergate Hotel. My picture looks kinda flat compared to Nagra's poster that pops out. I could not just zoom in because I made mine to suggest a very nervous person that stepped away to relieve himself who, by the way, has the missing 18 minutes. Nixon never used a Nagra SN, my picture suggests someone did. My poster is all fiction of course, or is it... "The Nagra JBR along with the SNST miniature recorders were categorized by the U.S. Department of Justice to be Interception of Communication Devices (IOC).” “The IOC statutes make it illegal to own, use, train and/ or educate non-law enforcement personnel to use this equipment.” First posted Dec. 18th, 2015
  14. Thanks for the reply, what you said above works, the part that I was missing was the cursor in the text before hitting the plus+. Before, I would hit the plus and It always put the picture at the top. Then I would try to move the picture around in the text and couldn't. I see now I should have been putting the cursor first it puts the picture right where the cursor is instead of the top. As you said. For 5 years I just copied and pasted the BBCode in red for message boards & forums shown below but the site would no longer accept it. I tried most of the other options below, message boards and blogs, etc. and they did not work either. I just tried the direct link (yellow arrow), It works!!! The only one that does, and the only one I didn't try. Puts the picture right where I want it instantly. Using the direct link I don't have go through the process of uploading the picture or use the add link button to get the picture in the post. It now works for me like it always did with copy and paste into the text and that is what I wanted. I knew it had to be something I was doing wrong or had to figure out. Inserting Youtube videos still work as they did before. Thank you for your help.
  15. I have a couple of problems with this new style forum and maybe adjustments can be made by whoever made the changes . I used to be able to post pictures within the text. If you go back through my posts, you will see many pictures and text in the same post. That is now impossible for me to do again. The attachment method on this new site does not put the picture in the text. You cannot post a picture through a URL link as text. Or at least I can't do it as I did before. I used to be able to do it as text then once posted the link becomes the picture. That has been the way I was doing it for the last 5 years. Now you have to upload a picture to Jwsound and you have no control where the picture will be shown within the text. It's ok if you only have one picture or you want all your pictures listed at the top or bottom of the post but if you want to insert the pictures to be within the text that is no longer possible to do as a simple task as far as I can see. Hopefully, someone will be able to address this and get it to work again or explain to me a simple way to do it. What I would normally do is post this below into the text where I wanted the picture. [img]https://i.imgur.com/ztHw6ED.jpg[/img] and that would be a picture when posted. No longer can I do that or know how to do that. Say I now wanted another picture in with the text, you would again post the link and there would be a picture below. [img]https://i.imgur.com/ztHw6ED.jpg[/img] You cannot do that anymore. A simple copy and paste from my picture site was all it needed . It would be great if that ability could be put back. So basically the way this post looks now would be what it looks like before I hit the [Submit Reply] or hit the preview Icon above. Except now it does not show the two pictures. The second problem with the new site is your post and pictures only use 2/3 of my laptop screen, a screen size like you are viewing on an Ipad even though you're on a full-size computer or laptop. The right-hand side of the screen is for notes and statistics about the thread but scroll down and the rest of the page is almost 1/3 of the page is a gray blank useless space for the rest of the thread. It should only be 2/3 while something is posted on the right side. Once there is nothing to post on the right the screen should return to FULL size. The screen shot below is what I see.

  17. Ken, Wow, pretty cool you have his yacht. Do you think he owned it in 1977? If so he would have installed his newly developed Nargafax in it. I was told it was developed for use on his boat and It was designed in one weekend. From Nagra Nagrafax Weather forecast map receiver and printer for sailing. There are different accounts of the story of the NAGRAFAX. Stefan Kudelski was an accomplished sailor who was once surprised by a storm in the Mediterranean sea. At that time, although the weather forecast was broadcast, it seems it was not precise enough to predict local storms, like the one found in the Agean sea around Greece. Upon his return, Stefan Kudelski designed a FAX that could receive data from weather stations and print an accurate map that allowed sailors to find the local weather conditions and sail to a safe haven if necessary. The NAGRAFAX was a must for any sailing boat and larger commercial vessels. It was used until very recently. https://www.nagraaudio.com/product/nagra-fax/
  18. Yikes, I didn’t think of that scenario, sorry to bring it up in such a fashion. You could go and buy the recorders but I guess it's one thing to dig them out of a closet and another when you have to repurchase them to make a display. All you really need is a Nagra III Nagra 4.2 maybe a Nagra IV-S I did it, and I don't even work here. 🤷‍♂️ On the bright side. You still have all your credits and that lives on forever.👍
  19. The Soundman, Vintage Machines and Credits Scott, Jeff, Phillip, and others Never mind part with them. You can make a very nice looking display in your home with just a few recorders. Buy a 35mm movie trailer on eBay, thousands of titles. Get one or more of the movies which you are responsible for and credited for the sound on the displayed Nagra's, drape the film roll around a little bit, and show the title on the roll of film (as shown in the picture below). Add a flex led-light strip to give it a movie marquee reflection look. Prop up and angle the recorders and any other memorabilia you have from the day. Turn once-stored, no longer used classic machines into a beautiful display. Now step back and continue to appreciate the machines you spent thousands of hours hands-on with and all the memories in a New Light. Your machines, Your movies, Your name within the credits for all of time. Priceless...😎
  20. Looks like problem solved Matthias 👍 nice pictures and tutorial on dela's advice . You produce some very nice posts. Good work, dela, When life long professional Soundmen chime in with actual first-hand knowledge using Nagras to record many hundreds or thousands of Hollywood movies, they stated they always had their Nagras plugged in without any problems. Gave a clear view and opinions on using rechargeables. We will never get a better sense of professional experience with early Nagras than you get from Hollywood Soundmen. After all, they were not recording high school plays at parent night. All along I thought the problems lie with JMB's equipment, not with the memories of the Sound professionals. The capacitor makes sense, when Jeff, Scott, and Philip used the equipment, the capacitors were 50 years younger. Of freeking course, there was no buzzing. These are "Professional Soundmen" - the best there is in sound. These are the men with many hours, many years of "ears on" experience. They would know and remember noise interference better than anyone while producing some of the biggest names in Hollywood Films. It's amazing how much you guys remember about battery times, volts, rewind times, etc. It's like you are still using vintage analog Nagras today. Thank You dela. Time and time again you always help so many people on this site without getting the credit that you fully deserve.
  21. Hi Jackal Would you mind deleting the full "quote" of the Yellow Story. It makes the thread too long and confusing to have such a long post duplicated again. Thank You The one without the S is older and worth more. I would not sell mine that low. I remember showing my brother the Ficord's years ago and he said he wouldn't pay 5.00 for one. So it's all in the person who wants to own one whats its worth. I believe the plain 101 was never sold in the US The 101 was changed to the S for the US market to match the more common speed used here in the US at the time. I do not have anymore 101 belts but that should not deter you from picking up that nice recorder made by Stellavox for Ficord. This ebay seller has all types of NEW replacement belts and has the Ficord 101 belts. If you didn't know this already. https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-BELT-Stellavox-Ficord-101-Dictation-Tape-Player-Recorder-ser-SX2935/153011018991?hash=item23a02adcef:g:pb8AAOSwRQla9b0l
  22. One of my favorite Nagras in my collection, all I can say. "The Nagra LB, one of the coolest looking Nagra's. Small, compact, hints of old and new, loaded with controls and packed with options, nice and busy" rjw
  23. Hello, nice to have you post here on Nagra Stories, all the way from Finland. You have a very clean and nice looking, 1966 Nagra III there. 1966 was the last year before the new up-dated meter design as shown below. I always like the older design as yours better. From 1958 to 1966 meter design, Pre 1967 Post 1966 Meter Design
  24. On the previous page I reposted a story from 2016 about The mystery of the Yellow recorder this is just a part of it. WHY did I sell this Roberts 3 in reel to reel with the 67 World Series recorded on it. That was the only thing that was recorded with this machine put back in the box and sold not knowing the recording was on the tape until I bought it a listened to it. I know why I sold it I wanted money to buy more expensive Nagra's. If You guys have the time click the video and listen to a little bit of this tape, the sounds, the commercials, the crack of the bat, the crowd, the announcer. Damm I never should have let that go. I'm not really a big baseball fan but doesn't that bring back memories. You don't hear sounds like this today. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Another was the 1967 World Series. I bought a nice little Roberts 3 inch reel to reel recorder with the 1967 World Series and commercials from the day, really interesting but I sold that recorder and the tape, maybe I should have kept it. Here is a video I made to sell it. Recorded Tape can be very Interesting if you have the time to listen, it’s a recording of what was happening back in that moment, in time. It was the only time this recorder was used, used to record the 1967 World Series then put back in its box. The recorder as you see it is now in a technology museum in Texas. Here is the video I made late last year of the recorder and tape playing, to sell on eBay. I had the recorder for years. (another one I should have kept. Listen to a part of the 1967 World Series Someone recorded on their brand new Roberts recorder.
