  1. Thanks for making me feel better about turning down work while on vacation! Good timing.
  2. +1 for Eneloop Pros. I have gotten 30 min out of a TRXLA2 after the battery started flashing in the receiver. NiMH is also supposed to perform better than lithium in cold, as well.
  3. Thank you both! Philip, you can thank Rich Topham for the B6 model - he suggested it (as well as the DPA).
  4. Very sorry to hear that! Very knowledgeable guy with some great products. I hope he heals up soon.
  5. Glad you asked, I was just working on these! Step 1 - Snap the mount together around the mic Step 2 - tape each side Step 3 - place in the shirt, curved side outward (the curve disguises the mount from the front) - as you can see in this photo Here's the mount from the side And a picture of the shirt on me Here's a couple to show the flexible nature of the material -
  6. Nice Mike! Thanks for chiming in. I work with a DP who has used the same Dana Dolly for years and has never been a sound issue. He uses Pledge to keep the rails lubed, or soft, or whatever Pledge does. Thanks for caring about the whole set.
  7. Hey all, just wanted to let you know my button-down lav mounts are now available at Pro Sound. You can get them in black or white for the COS-11, DPA 4060 series, or B6. http://www.pro-sound.com/p/SABEMICMOUNT.html I made these to deal with a really awful work shirt on a show I've been on this summer. Starchy, crackly and dense, it responded weakly to some of my favorite tricks but was still a pain. I had the idea to brute-force a solution that would give the mic some clearance and also create a dead space in the shirt, movement-wise. I tried a couple of different materials and this is the result. The mounts are very flexible, vibration-absorbent, and strong - they hold up to a lot of abuse. I use the COS-11 version every day on this show and it's been a lifesaver. It doesn't prevent truly awful things like arm-crossing, but normal movement is now totally acceptable in my case. I recommend using it vertically, between the shirt buttons near the solar plexus, so the mic is barely hidden. You can use 1/2" Topstick, or Joe's Sticky Stuff if you need extra isolation. The mic comes out at an angle because I like the way it sounds better than purely horizontal. Any questions please ask! Thanks, Abe
  8. That's a bummer Greg. I'd probably return the gear to the dealer and pick up an alternative if possible. This doesn't bode well for future tech support.
  9. Amazing work Rado. Short of a backpack I can't imagine a more ergonomic kit. Have you been able to test it out much? Any increase in RFI from putting the antennas inside the recorder?
  10. "Everything you'll need for a guide trac Yes sir!" My favorite was an exec who continually talked through the scenes. Upon hearing that we'd recorded some talking on the last take, he shouted angrily for quiet. Roll again, talks again. Repeat twice, I gave up..
  11. Thanks Chris! I'm dropping off some at Pro Sound today. When they have them in the catalog online I'll post a link in the Manufacturers & Dealers forum.
  12. Here you go - it's designed to sit between the buttons in a button-down shirt. I've been using it on a show I'm on with a difficult shirt and it's made a big difference (though this is with the COS-11 version). The mount snaps together around the mic and then can be Topstuck on both sides to the shirt or you can use Joe's for extra isolation. The curved surface helps hide the bump from the front. There is increased visibility of the mic from one side, so it'll be available in black and white (more colors if there's enough interest). The material is very flexible and very strong. I've been thinking of a way to adapt this to make a more universal mount. This one is really just for button-downs.
  13. I'm applying. I feel good about my fun skills and improve skills.
  14. I loved working with Lisa! Amazing woman.
  15. I'm making a flexible button-down shirt mount for DPAs. Will post more info if interested. It should be available within a month.

    RF Killer

Unexplained natural phenomenon. Only solution I know is to get the TX high on the body or in a hat.
  17. I think you may have proved my point! Ha. 744 is a great machine, no arguments there. But it was designed purely as a recorder.
  18. 744T is tough to mix 4 channels on, but it still might be easier to use than an F8. Best bet is to try them both at a dealer.
  19. Slightly off topic, I've had very good luck lately with the frequency 2424 for Zaxnet. Most routers broadcast on channels 1, 6, or 11, and since 2.4Ghz broadcast works across multiple channels, 2424 and 2450 are most likely to be clean from nearby wifi. Wifi channel graph for explanation:
  20. I've been working in NYC for almost 10 years without a car. It's certainly doable, but you have to either allow plenty of extra time or budget for cabs. My light rig - which gets me through almost all my jobs - is a backpack, a Pelican 1510 with my bag strapped to the top, and my boom pole velcroed to my bag. I love being able to bring a small and very capable kit. The rig I described is also very easy to fly with - I just check the backpack in a suitcase with my chargers, and then I can work for 2-3 days on what I can carry on. I haven't had my gear lost in transit yet but it's good peace of mind. Edit to add - I work on exclusively OMB gigs where I either boom or put the boom on a stand. I'm a doc/doc-style guy so this makes sense for me. I'd probably want to carry more gear if I was doing more feature/commercial/episodic type work.
  21. I'm glad you had some success with it! I feel like constant noises are much easier to remove in RX. I had trouble matching the frequency response of the noise on the dialog mic with the "noise" mic. Maybe I gave up too soon.
  22. Heh. I had someone ask me to do that with a highway on a feature scout. "Can't you just invert the phase on a second mic and cancel that out?" I didn't end up working on that movie.
