  1. I'm guessing there's a big antenna tower on top of that building. It's the same story on the observatory deck of the John Hancock building here in Chicago... Coordinate your wireless till you're blue in the face, you'll still have a wall of interference when you're that close to a big TV antenna.
  2. Here's my current config with the 614. Note that it is also possible to fit 4x slot mount sized receivers side by side in a single line in the main pocket. There's a handy strap on the inside of the bag that you can use to ratchet everything together tightly. A nicely designed bag. Those of you with the nomad antenna issue... Can't you just point the antenna down towards the ground and stay inside the bag? It would still be polarized correctly..
  3. Careful here, you can actually only receive audio OR timecode back from the STA unit but not both simultaneously. An important distinction somewhat glossed over by the Zaxcom website info and user manual.
  4. Not too big of a hassle just an extra bnc cable if all goes well.
  5. It does look like a nice way to make really excellent strain reliefs on cables.
  6. In regards to the OP, I have no concrete info but I have been to Dakar and elsewhere in Senegal and I would say not to worry too much about finding yourself in an RF crowded area. Dakar is a big city but it's no NYC and I doubt they have the kind of wireless regulation that England does requiring you to register your freqs, etc.. But feel free to prove me wrong. I'd be most concerned about getting all of your gear in and out safely and timely. The international airport in Dakar is not the most foreign friendly airport in the land. I would insist that the production company have a good fixer hired and be sure to fill out the proper Carnet or whatever else you need in terms of paperwork. As far as bathing goes.. I would just use your common sense based on what kind of digs you end up in. I would only drink bottled water though for sure.
  7. I do regularly. With 4 Sennheiser EK3041 receivers and SK50 transmitters. It's a pain in the ass. Things like New Endian's "FreqFinder" makes life easier.
  8. I will say that mousers online store is light years ahead of Markertek. Finding stuff on Markertek makes my head hurt and i feel like I'm always having to double check to make sure it's exactly what I'm looking for. I just ordered some mini mic cable (Mogami) from Redco for the first time, they seem very good. Digikey is also worth checking out.
  9. Great work thus far on the freq finder app. It's already very useful in the field. For me, the local TV interference display is a key feature. I have a suggestion: A new feature that could give the user a summary of what blocks are best to use for the current locale. Sort of a "block advisor". I'm not sure how it would function in a graceful way or what the best way to display and rank the data on a 4.3" screen would be but I feel a feature like this would be invaluable. Another great feature for this as well as the existing app would be to have the option of entering another zip code so that you're not always locked into just your current location. Also, would it be possible to add a manual refresh button for the location finding service? Today I had a large lag in when I opened the app to when it realized I was in a new location and updated the TV data (android). Thanks for listening! -Derek
  10. This bag is awesome for the 552. Just completed a shoot with the 614 loaded with the 552, 4x radios, Comtek transmitter, and Zaxcom hops. Much better form factor for this kind of rig. I love it, thank you petrol. Pics to come.
  11. I emailed Petrol and suggested they consider sewing a layer of this kind of fabric inside their bags, or at least the side pouches. I did not get any response. I would suggest you email them if you're interested. The more they receive maybe they will start to take notice.
  12. Thanks for the info, interesting. You see double lavs on TV all the time. Phasing makes sense, I was thinking perhaps since they would be so close together they may be in phase.. Of course i can't think of any benefit to mixing them either...
  13. I'm curious to know if you guys mix them both for any reason or just pot up one at a time. Or.. Do you split them left / right in case of rf hits?
  14. The bigger problem with felines is the low frequency rumble...
  15. Why would one use this instead of standard silicone "caulk" from a hardware store?
  16. Yes, I realize there are specialty made cables from Canare and others for this purpose, but you're not going to fit any of them in a TA sized connector. Just wondering what most folks do in this scenario.
  17. Here's a question that I keep wondering about every time I go to wire up a new cable for something that has multiple channels on one connector... Will this cable be prone to cross talk or other kinds of signal interference? More and more devices are using multi-pin connectors for various input/output. Take the Nomad for an obvious example, with it's several inputs and outputs on TA5 jacks. How concerned about cross talk should one be when wiring various cable harnesses for use with these kinds of connectors? For example, my Zaxcom TRX900STA150 transmitter has a single TA5 jack utilized for two channels of analog audio input.. would I be at risk of cross-talk between channels if I made a cable that ran from my mixers 10-pin Hirose jack straight to the TA5 using something like Canare starquad? As a rule of thumb does one need to stick to individually shielded, twisted pair channels (separate cables) for this kind of application? This doesn't only apply to Zaxcom. I/O on increasingly random multi-pin connections seems to be a trend going forward. Just wondering what good cable making protocol for these situations should be. Any thoughts? Any one ever encounter a specific problem in the field related to too many ins or outs on one connector or within the same cable jacket?
  18. For whatever reason the latest, bleeding edge Zaxcom software updates are only available on their user forum. What prompts them to publish an update on their public site is a mystery. You'll notice they are quite out of date.
  19. I'll try updating my trx900aa this weekend.. Will report any issues. I'm one of the users that was never able to update the QRX ifb board with the trx. Major pain... Thank you team Zaxcom.
  20. Mainly I'm interested in 72MHz to see if I'll have trouble with my older Comteks.
  21. I will likely buy one when they release the model that can do 15Hz-5.8GHz
  22. I wonder if there's room in the STA for a hirose... It would be nice if they all could use the same cables.
  23. Thanks Jack, are these from Mingston actually a perfect fit? I remember reading that the Zaxcom gear is pretty finicky regarding length of the plug. Hence the need for two different connectors for the receivers and the STA. Even though they're just a mm or two different
  24. I might have to steal their custom right angle 761k design. I see that they are using the clam shell parts from a Neutrik right angle 3.5mm. Doesn't quite fit though.. Need to grind off the threads on the Switchcraft perhaps.
