  1. The automatic frequency scanning and switching capability instills a lot more confidence.

    Bit Rates

Sometimes i think the request for 16 bit comes from a state of ignorance as well as tape based workflow being the only thing the client is familiar with. I asked for recording specs and timecode settings for my last gig (on 744) and was told 48, 16 bit. Record run also.. Had me scratching my head... No explanation was given. I had to assume that they just said what they're used seeing on tapes with no real concept of dual system workflow. I was at least able to convince them to do free run so i didn't have to string a cable to the slate...
  3. This is a great question and I hope it gets answered. If this functionality is not currently possible I do hope Zaxcom considers it. Being able to control transmitter gain with the auto trim function would be amazing.
  4. Hi James, Thanks for all your hard work. I may be one of the few users out there that is trying to use your app to coordinate Sennheiser SK50 transmitters along with Lectro gear. A lot of the frequencies these transmitters use end in odd numbers like 579.795 and so forth.. Is it possible to get an accurate intermod calculation for these? With the current app should i just round off and assume the intermod results for 579.800 will be good enough? Thanks, Derek
  5. The downside to this is that you cannot send timecode from your nomad to the QRX (to jam camera) since you have tasked your QRX to be a second IFB transmitter just for confidence return. It's too bad they can't send and receive at the same time. It would be nice to not have to choose which functionality is more important. Just getting greedy I guess.
  6. This is a good thread to look over. Unfortunately, all of Oleg's posts have been removed for some reason which is too bad. As for adding a figure of eight element for under 500 I would look at the ambient emmesser. The Sennheiser MKH30 would be a good choice for you obviously but you won't find it for under 500.
  7. I have a VdB for sale.. 2007 made. No cable. One of the sections is a little messed up, scratched. Let me know if you're interested. Can send more details and pics.
  8. I'm using the QRX100 built-in IFB with standard whip antenna. RF power set to "7"
  9. I do wish that the Ifb receiver built into the trx900aa had a quad diversity system.. That thing is very dropout prone at anything but close range. Sorry, ot
  10. 552 is excellent. Nomad would get you more mixing and routing capability for a little more money, and as many recording tracks as needed in the future.
  11. Thank you for making this very useful app. I look forward to using it. Here are some initial impressions after I bought and installed the Android version and played with it for about 10 minutes. - I would prefer the "new channel" button to automatically load a new compatible channel rather than just the lowest freq in the current lectro block. Also, I would like there to be a prompt or selection menu for how many new channels you want to add so that with just two or three button presses you can load up as many compatible channels as required, as it is now there is much repetitive button pressing to load up a whole list. Of course this assumes they are all in the same block. If you need a bunch in another block I guess you would just add a new channel and then modify it manually. - probably you could come up with a more elegant solution than me but I feel that the more 'automatic' this app can be by default all the better as far as I'm concerned... manual control is also of course important but secondary if you ask me. - I would also like the ability to just enter in the frequency manually which will make the app compatible with all makes and models of wireless devices. For example I have some Sennheiser SK50s that I use often. They use a slightly different block start and end than Lectro as well as different freqs. - For the TV database portion I would like the ability to enter a zip code so I can use the app to plan out what blocks I need for out-of-town work. Thanks again for all your hard work! -Derek
  12. Cool photo. It looks massive! Perhaps that's just the perspective of the photo? Does it compare well with the traditional Rycote setup? In terms of weight and balance for the operator? I assume the acoustics and wind protection is superb. I've almost ordered Cinela shock mounts probably a dozen times this year... Maybe in 2012!
  13. This is great! Also great and quite amazing is that they had the foresight to archive all the posts from the original Yahoo group within the new forum so that you can search through all the old topics that have already been covered. Nice going Zax!
  14. Hey Eric, have you found any reason one should avoid using just a standard trs 3.5mm connector with the g3/g2? Such as the right angle version from Neutrik? I realize the connection would be prone to pull out but other than that anything electrically significant?
  15. If you can stomach the price they charge, remote audio has a right angle locking connector that fits the receivers. (they use the same connector for their bds, so you can just order a bds cable with pigtail on one end). No luck for the transmitters though.
  16. I wish they all just used Hirose 4-pin...
  17. If you're looking to diy a cable to turn the ta3 tape out into a tape or mic level mono out go to sound devices' website, tech notes, then 302. You'll find a article and diagram on how to make one, very useful cable. Also allows you to pass through the original left and right tape out to another device like a recorder. All it takes is a few connectors and a couple of 1k resistors.
  18. I've also had trouble trying to remote roll my 552 via the trx900 (rec run code from camera via qrxifb). 552 does not seem to like it at all. Record light would just blink and only sometimes. Manual record would work and automatic cut worked. 552 ended up recording lots of 3 second and less takes. Haven't had time to troubleshoot yet.
  19. I would second Matt's advice. This is my method as well for mystery meters. Usually I use this method when calibrating to a camera that I'm not familiar with. It will also inform you where the device actually starts clipping. Which is sometimes sooner than the meter would have you believe.
  20. I own a Schoeps cmc5mk41 combo, a 416, and the CS3-e. My 416 stays at home most days now.
  21. Demo a Sanken CS3-e. I love mine.
  22. I agree, it would be nice to be able to switch off the intermod calculator if you are just interested in locating the significant TV towers the area.
  23. I had a similar problem when I first received mine. Turned out it had a hardware problem and needed to go back for service. Has been flawless since.
  24. If it works well you'll make a mint! I think most users will want the full version with the fcc database checker.
  25. I would argue that categories are nice to organize but not too terribly important as i'm assuming many of us simply look at the "new content" and read the active conversations regardless of category placement.
