  1. Sounds like you've had an unfortunate run in with an individual suffering from an acute case of "Millennial-itis". I guess I'm of the "millennial" generation also.. but I did take cable wrapping seriously.
  2. I'm with ya Glen. That other method looks painful!
  3. On Android there's an app called electrodroid that has pin outs with diagrams but is mostly for things like USB connectors and other computer and phone centric stuff. They do have xlr and 1/4" but if you can't remember those you're in trouble!
  4. Paul Isaacs works for SD. If he says SDXC is compatible then it should be so.
  5. Matt, are you sure you didn't mean SDHC and not SDXC? I thought sdxc used a different FAT version.
  6. Will the nomad USB port charge a cell phone?
  7. While I'm harping on the Zaxcom user manuals, another pet peeve occurred to me.. I really, really, wish Zaxcom would author an individual user manual for each product. As it is now they lump ALL their wireless products into one behemoth user guide that is hard to navigate and easy to forget if the info you're reading at any given point applies to your unit or some other product or both... Even if it means there is a lot of redundant info across the manuals I would much prefer to have a dedicated manual for each unit. Zaxnet should have it's own manual as well, at least an overview guide with a capabilities and product compatibilities chart. I love the Zaxcom products I own but the documentation has always left me disappointed.
  8. Nomad seems to be the more flexible machine in terms of input to output routing. The benefits of Zaxnet are also a factor. Sound Devices user manuals are comprehensive, easy to read, and organized. Zaxcom's user manuals are just not on the same level. Just my opinion. Also, they do not bother updating them with software changes, which are frequent. This leaves many of the newly added features undocumented. I find this unacceptable. Also, it only adds to Zaxcom's reputation for making devices that are "too complicated" or user-unfriendly. It's a shame because this is not really accurate, but I've met soo many "eng" mixers who won't touch zaxcom stuff due to mostly rumor mill reliability and complicated interface issues. I remember one mixer saying "yeah the zaxcom stuff is cool but you have to be an electrical engineer to figure it out!". It's a serious concern I wish they would address. It's really in their best interest. The you tube videos are nice but when I'm on a job and need THE answer to a question there is no time to browse through videos online. It needs to be in the manual.
  9. I've never encountered a producer who had even the slightest concern for what kind of lav I was using. And rarely ever a care for what kind of wireless system.
  10. I've found that for the 788's mix assist to work well the inputs need to be trimmed very carefully to the same level. To me, it seems to fail the most with very dynamic speakers who change their volume dramatically from one sentence to the next. For example, non actors in a reality show... It's a neat tool, even if it's not perfect. I don't really understand the two modes the 788 provides though... Follow left right or the not. Even after reading the manual.
  11. Thanks for sharing. I would also like to hear the side of the story from the post team who dealt with all the various recordings and sources. Did it all lock up well with the Zaxnet timecode? Were there ever "zaxnet drop outs"? No one would notice those and they could potentially cause timecode issues. Just wondering if it's a good system for everybody down the chain.
  12. Funny story! What a bunch of knuckleheads! Sounds like you handled it brilliantly!
  13. You can use the results of the Sennheiser find frequencies page for any model of transmitter. It takes a little studying. The main thing is to look for patches of bandwidth that have the greatest signal attenuation (far right column) meaning the least amount of interfering transmission. Use those areas. It is not an intermodulation calculator. For that you'll have to use the lectro chart, FreqFinder, IAS, or just trial and error.
  14. It's impressive but seems over engineered to me. I think Apple's main incentive for developing this is to make it stand out as different and more special than Android and other phones. The common micro USB connector can do a lot too. Charge, exchange data, interface with other devices, share an internet connection, etc. Not trying to start a war, I just don't see the lightning connector being that fundamentally different. I will say that it is cool the plug will fit either way.
  15. Might be fun for a few minutes to be able to A/B the two mics and listen to the differences. Wouldn't want to actually work like that though.
  16. Agreed, hoping the Android update doesn't take too long!
  17. Single system works but they need to have the XLR input/ LCD viewer attachment installed.
  18. Sounds like Powerex is the preferred brand here for NiMH AAs. Any reasoning? Quality control? Consistent run times?
  19. I agree that it would be nice to have a more streamlined unit. Not sure my wallet would stomach the change out but I would consider it. My top requests would be the following: - Top mounted display with good backlight. - Top mounted buttons - Dedicated REC/STOP button/s - Single LED to indicate IFB reception status - All connectors on bottom of unit. - IFB reception ability as good or better than the ERX - Analog or AES stereo input. - Variable output power from 10mW-150mW - Built in FDP part - All RF and DC power issues resolved. - SMA antenna (death to the SSMA) - Locking input/output timecode connectors (BNC or TA maybe) - Ability to output timecode and IFB audio simultaneously - Excellent Timecode generator/reader with option to always display code on homescreen - Smaller than QRX / fits in Petrol side pouch Maybe a tall order... I also agree that the black Stereoline can still hold it's own. Are you guys using it with the RON page trick to disable the limiter?
