  1. 16 ISOS can be sourced from any of 12 analog inputs (8 balanced mic/line + 4 unbalanced line), 10 AES inputs (once the 8ch AES optional accessory comes out), plus 16-ch Dante.
  2. It doesn't. This is an error in the specs. We'll fix it soon. yes
  3. They are the same as Scorpio preamps, yes.
  4. Has anyone done rigorous testing with the Zoom at 192k 10 tracks yet? Curious how many people in general use 192 kHz with 8 tracks or more and in what application. BTW - Scorpio can do 18 tracks @ 192k and 36 @96k to SD cards. But that's a more powerful engine than MixPre as you'd expect.
  5. Thx for the link - good info. We'll take a deeper look. In the meantime, our Sound Devices approved card should work fine. From looking at the results in the link, it seems that 192kHz, 8 track is the point at which an issue might occur. 192k, 7-track seems good. We do suggest avoiding using microSD cards in adapters as that is introducing another potential bottleneck.
  6. Please let me know the exact model of SD cards have you experienced this with so that we can evaluate. Our Sound Devices approved SD SAM card works very well @192 kHz, 24-bit or 32-bit float, as well as many other cards we have tried. Thx
  7. If the maximum possible incoming microphone level (in the case of MixPre-II, +12dBV) is mapped in such a way that the resulting output of the ADC does not exceed 0dBFS, then you will not clip it. Your next question is probably, 'yeah but what about if you boost input gain pushing that mic signal even higher beyond 0dBFS'. You would have a point if the input gain is applied pre ADC, but what if the gain is applied digitally post ADC? With 32-bit float processing you have a vast headroom above and below 0dBFS. As long as you don't boost digital gain by > 700 dB, you should be fine, although your ears may get a little sore;)
  8. Video edit software FCPX (10.4.6) and Adobe Premier Pro can handle 32-bit float, not Avid MC 8.6.5 though.
  9. USB auto copy basically copies each take from the SD card to the thumbdrive as soon as it finishes recording. To change stereo output from LTC to audio, about 3 taps of the screen ~ 2 secs!

Peter Mega - In Scorpio v2 firmware released today, nested folders are included - up to 3 levels deep, so you can store daily folders in project folders etc etc.
  11. With auto-mixing becoming a common tool in all sorts of large unscripted and scripted production, 16-ch of Dugan Automix can be a real boon. We've just released a Scorpio v2 update which includes it. Paul

Geoff - thanks for sharing your first impressions of Scorpio. All good stuff, much of which we know about and are in our short term plans. You mention 'half-baked' ... I'd prefer to think of Scorpio as a fully-baked first tier of a cake designed to be robust enough to have many further tiers added to it:) And each layer is sweeter than the last;) Just like all our previous products e.g. 788T, Scorpio's hardware, OS, and external control ecosystem have been architected to evolve and grow with the needs of the production sound industry for many years to come. Keep watching this space. This is just the beginning. Thx again Paul

    It is possible!

MixPre makes for an excellent value little overdub box to put in your kit for those cases, no?

The 688/CL12 is a great combo that we continue to sell and support. With the Scorpio, we are specifically mapping the Platform M+ controls/buttons for Scorpio production sound use. Each channel strip will have access to trim, fader, solo, mute, arm, pan, HPF, Limiter, 3-band EQ, track name display, delay, bus sends etc. Then you have access to all bus gains/mutes and output gains/mutes. Then transport control and user buttons for things like coms and slate + more. Besides that, our USB Midi MCU support makes mapping controls pretty easy and flexible as we move forward.

3-band EQ can be controlled for ch 1-16 from USB controllers yes, including the Icon Platform M+. EQ Gain, Freq, Q, Type, Bypass all available for all three bands. Saving EQ presets is on our agenda, although not at release. It exists already, the A10-Rack. Hooks up beautifully via Dante to the Scorpio.

We don't have final figures on that yet, still testing that. In idle your looking at about 875mA @12V 16 mic preamps all running 48v, 10mA and battery charging on will consume current. We'll publish details once confirmed. FWIW, Scorpio has super intelligent power management - anything that isn't active is powered down.

    1. HP gain will be available on our first supported MCU controller, the Icon. 2. Pretty simple request 3. There's dedicated arm/disarm buttons on each channel 4. There is currently an extra toggle on the Scorpio for Com1 & 2. There are user programmable buttons on the Icon. 5. We will up line gain to 50dB. Our bad! 6. From our FAQ: The Scorpio has a ton of functionality, include 16 full-featured (and full-powered) mic preamps. These, along with full 48 V per channel as well as two battery chargers means the Scorpio can draw a significant amount of peak current (the battery chargers can draw over 3 A alone). The 4-pin Hirose connectors are rated for 2 A per pin, which is not enough. Thus we went to the TA4 connector, which is good for 5 A per pin. Additionally, the TA4 delineates the connector on the Scorpio as a Smart Battery connector. 7. At launch, yes. Icon ticked most of the boxes, that's why we went with that first. Other's will follow. Banking is supported and includes motorized fader support.

This is Sound Devices. You know the score. We prefer to announce what is definite! All channels 1-32 can be controlled with the Icon.

Yep, two com circuits and a slate circuit and the ability to mute, duck or not mute program when a com is active.

They are Scorpio preamps. Lowest noise we've made to date.
  23. If you had a USB thumbdrive inserted, it was probably still auto-copying. Power down is prevented during this process. Copying status is displayed on the USB drive status bar at bottom of LCD. Just touch it to toggle to toggle to this view. Hope this helps.
