  1. Client looking to do remote intv-- probably going to use IOS Voice memo. Did a few tests with other apps but tough to beat simplicity and relative quality of Voice Memo... I looked at REV , Voice Recoder and Awesome Voice Recorder. Awesome Voice Recorder(AVR) sounded really good. However- outputting a AVR file that i could read in Audacity or wav agent was a problem. Seems to come up as a text file. Quicktime could play it.. but that is not very handy and has me concerned about the client having issues. Even iTunes could not the files... Anybody here have any better apps that sound better than Voice Memo? Tough to balance simplicity and quality. Thanks- j
  2. For working with non professionals. I can see giving quick tutorials describing where and how the mic needs to placed. Many visual aids- simple mounts. i can see having pictures and examples loaded into my phone to show people. Maybe Ipad- for bigger display. Add some humor to the process if possible. And i plan on reeking of sanitizer-- and my gear too.
  3. Awesome-- they look pretty well fed.. which is not always case coming off the tracks..
  4. We Have had three greyhounds... lovable sweet dogs.. frequently misunderstood breed - they are not hyper- they do not need tons of space or excercise - great with kids and. Some even like cats. if i had room. ......
  5. Marshall- makes dual monitors.. similar to black magic smart view duo..
  6. How did you do the 5 pin xlr to ta 3f mod?
  7. HI Constantin- As i understand it, X3 does not have faders in traditional sense. What looks like faders and pots are actuators and any level control can be assigned to any actuator. Sooo I think -yes you can have track level control on one "fader" and the fader next to it a can control pre-amp gain of that track.... Actuator can be on the control surface like cantarem2, or cantaress- or the top slide faders(actuators) i think the rotary faders as well. But i am sure there are experienced X3 users here who could chime in and explain it better. The X3 manual can be quite confusing and there are a few basic functionary concepts that are tough to grasp at first. Looking closely at CL-16-- X3...
  8. just sent two mics to them... I have no problem waiting-- as long as the repairs are done right..
  9. Yes, it is very tempting. New product?
  10. reviving this thread.... any other options? Seems like kortwich is the lightest...
  11. Strongly suggest getting the paper version of Purcells book. Some of the diagrams- screen grabs--- non text info a little hard to grasp in the E-book version.. At least the version i read. j
  12. The schoeps capsule pad ( dz something ) as part of collette system can definitely be protection for capsule overload. Not sure if the built in pad of the mkh-50 actually pads the capsule or just knocks down the output........ for an an opera gig I used a dpa 6061 dialed the gain to down to handle the outrageous SPLs. When I listened to regular speaking levels( increasing gain on my panel) - it was all still there and self noise was manageable. Dpa was going to make extra reduced unit for opera - but decided not to because of the ability of the 6061 to handle extreme volumes..
  13. 552 sounds good. SVEN clunky but is workable. You can do high quality stereo recording- with tC including MP3s... 5 quality mic pres can be front end( with limiters) for feeding 688 inputs 7, 8,9 ...etc. Quickly feed two cameras and have returns. I had my 552 on sale several times and never sold. But, i keep finding an occasional use for it. Solid piece to keep as a backup.

    HHB Dat

Yes-- it think HHB came up with that widely used mod. Mine was literally salvaged from a blown up Stelladat... Sounded great.
  15. I am the outlier here. thinking it was safest option, I had production buy SD CF cards for a film. Several failed with speed issues. Switched to my personal Sandisk cards-no issue- long takes 13 tracks..... . Cards failed with not so high track counts-- 5 tracks. Failed in both 688 and 633. And also failed during card to card transfer. Talking to SD about it today.

I think most of the transports were made by alps....... all were a nightmare. I had a pd-4 bastardized with steladat headphone amp and L\R/M/ stereo headphone matrix.
  17. Two CMITs failed me last night. 100% humidity and for sure it was after night fall and the dew point as sky high. All packed up in silica gel ziplock now. j
  18. Update-- wranglers awesome. Have been able to boom around horses with little restriction. They had pre-silenced saddles as well. All is very well. Tough show but horses are not the worst part. Thank you all for your help. j
  19. So far in initial conversations Wranglers they are OK with Booms.. They said they are trained movie horses and booms are not the kind of thing to spook them.. Further discussions to be had. Not using "Action"... Thanks Mike for that tip. Thank you all for your sage advice. Much appreciated.. j
  20. if i can get boom in, i will be at the very least putting away the furry covers. j
  21. Good start to the conversation thanks guys... saddle soap yes! I do not think we have budget, time or talent pool to use fisher.
