  1. Need Small Phantom Power Thing (Thing?)

The phantom power unit is actually 4.6 cubic inches. However it has a different form factor at 4.2” long and 0.52” thick. The thinness may make it look larger in the picture. When evaluating what to use, I know there are other factors too. 1.) budget 2.)Location - European products have easier access and service for Europeans and US products vice versa… However the parameters for a phantom power unit have been challenging. 1.) cost - smaller units cost more and I’m not sure this product will support a high price 2.) battery life - most want 10-12 hours 3.) Speed & Flexibility - can it be thrown into multiple situations very quickly So here are some thoughts on a new form factor… Boom Belt - We are exploring a boom belt (similar to versa flex’s TX belt). The unit would be placed sideways within a belt that would have additional pouches for a transmitter and IFB. Possible advantages… 1.) The belt would be pretty flush with the body and only stick out about a 1/2” to 3/4”. It would also be about 2-3” long and eliminate a large extruding bag. A thin belt would make running, bending, and sitting easier. 2.) ergonomic design - It is thin so the weight is more evenly distributed which places less stress on the back. Plant mic - The thinness can also make it easy to hide in some situations like on a sun visor… Boom Pole - We have a boom pole mount that makes it easy and can securely attach a transmitter.

  3. Lectro PDR, not Lectro PMR

I just wanted to clear things up regarding Mozegear. For awhile, we received our extrusions from Micron in England. However, we now have our extrusions custom-made from a company in the USA who produces the extrusions in the USA. All other remaining pieces (tops, bottoms etc...) are manufactured in-house.
  4. Mozegear at NAB - NEW

Hi Chris, Thanks for the interest. There are actually 2 powering connectors. The first and primary connector is the hirose. The micro USB is actually an alternative powering connector. Since the industry has been changing, we have found that virtually all bags and cameras have some powering solution. Even most boom op's in the US have a smaller bag. For this reason we reevaluated internal batteries since they had weight, size, and cost to many who have other powering solutions already in place. That being said, traditionally powering solutions are very expensive and often very heavy so we wanted to give an alternative way to power and that is where the micro USB comes in. You can literally attach a USB power supply that is the size of a credit card to the unit and put it in a small bag for the boom op, a plant mic situation, or even on the boom. You can also connect a USB power supply via the more durable hirose connector and avoid the weight and cost of larger powering solutions. To make it more flexible both the micro USB and hirose connector at the same time. So there are a lot of powering opportunities with the Mini Papi. I hope this answers your questions. Overall we feel the Mini Papi is a good alternative to larger phantom power pre amps that have restricted use due to their size. Thanks for your comments and suggestions. We actually appreciate them and listen. The 2XG will provide up to 28dB of extra gain. The Mini Papi has 80 dB with a range of 20dB to 80dB. It also has a limiter and basscut and supplies phantom power. Neither unit has internally powering although the Mini Papi has alternative powering via a micro USB connector. May I ask how you were planning on using it which will help me in explaining the products for your applications?

Make sure you come see us tomorrow morning at NAB. Steve Tibbo will be going us for a "meet and greet" at 10:30 and then at 11:30 he will be doing the drawing for a free Q series timecode generator or our new 2XG. (your choice). Make sure you don't miss it!!!
  6. NAB rumor, speculation, and dreams thread

Thanks - coming soon! No it is externally powered although it has alternative powering available through a micro usb. This keeps the unit small, lightweight, so that it can be easily used in a boom op bag or on a camera. It can also be placed in remote situations without having to worry about battery life.
  7. NAB rumor, speculation, and dreams thread

Thanks Rado, We are excited about the new products. All 3 are very small and we feel very versatile. Looking forward to your input down the road. We have to send some back with Conrad so you can give us your opinion. Coming to the "bay area" soon!
  8. Mozegear at NAB - NEW

Derek, The mini papi is externally powered only. We wanted something small that can be used in many situations (including on cameras). It can also be powered through the micro USB on the top. This way you can power it from something that can be purchased anywhere and is rechargeable. You don't actually have to power it from an IDX or similar system. Since many boom op's use a small bag on their waist, the alternative powering through the micro USB can be used and batteries don't have to be changed during the day. Bab, The 2XG is a 2 channel gain booster. It has 28db of gain whereas the Mini Papi is a full pre-amp with a bass cut, limiter, and phantom power. The 2XG is very small and designed to give control and more gain to 1.) menu driven line level channels 2.) busses 3.) line level inputs on mixers and recorders. Hi Jez, The 2XG is primarily designed for a bag. We felt that adding to the size, weight, and cost would not really be an advantage for most users of this product. However the Mini Papi does have a micro USB powering option (as stated above). Again we were trying to keep down the size, weight and cost for those who don't really need the internally powering. We agree that some users will prefer something internally powered, so we will be looking at a unit that can be internally powered down the road.

  11. NEW From Mozegear

Hey Rado, One of the challenges of "small" is the space for the instruction panel (which I am sure you will agree with). We had a couple of sleaves made of elastic with velcro on the back. That way the information can be accessed. We sent out a few and then got so busy with the PIP, PAPI, NAB... that I didn't get the others out. I will drop one in the mail tomorrow. I will warn you that the design is probably good, but they are prototypes and a little rough (or in this case they ravel) around the edges.
  12. NEW From Mozegear

It was great spending time with you. The size of all the products are dictated by the size of the batteries and connectors. As the battery possibilities get smaller in the future, then ... We can only dream.
  13. NEW From Mozegear

Thanks David. We love to hear that and I also look forward to hearing what you think when you have had a chance to use them. Since we have had such a great response, we are a bit backordered, so for those reading this... Thanks for your support!
  14. NEW From Mozegear

Hi Phil, The PIP and PAPI are not shipping. We are hoping to have the PIP ship in about 6-7 weeks. The PAPI will probably be August. I am assuming you are talking about the little fabic pouch with Velco that I sent you for the Q? We have had some good feedback on the test pouches. We are open to thoughts on that?
  15. NEW From Mozegear

Thanks everyone. To say I enjoyed spending time with all of you at NAB is an understatement. It's like the holidays with friends and family. I look forward to it all year! I am hoping to be able to get away after the PIP and PAPI are out. Then I can visit you guys in your hometowns and you can test the new products. We may even have some newer products to introduce. (You never know...)
