  1. is there a store bought bag that beats the Petrol or Portabrace? Thanks, Ty Ford
  2. Hey guys I am trying to record for the first time with my SD 664 I just got and had this warning come up; "CF Warning Media I/O Error". I checked the manual, altered some settings, to no avail. My set-up included 3 Lav's on channels 2-4. The SD card works but the CF is giving me the error. Is the CF card bad? It's brand new. Both cards I'm using (CF and SD) are approved cards on the Sound Devices website for the 664. I also was unable to reformat the card, as I was given the same error. I checked SD forums and there was a thread regarding the SD card not working, but did not see this error for the CF. Any wisdom is greatly appreciated
  3. Hi all I've been browsing through the forum for a few months now, and thought it was about time to actually post someting! I'm a London based sound recordist, and have been working as staff sound recordist / technical manager for the past 3 years in a large facilities company, with a previous 3 years working my way up the ranks. I know some of the members on here personally from previous jobs i've worked on, and some i know purely from reputation. Im soon to be making the move to freelance, buying my own kit and going on my own. I've decided on a sound devices 664, a peice of kit i fell in love with when i got to use one ( i currently use a mk4ive SQN) and have yet to decided what radios to purchase (i currently use Audio Ltd 2040's, but i feel there are better investments out there) So before asking any advice, I thought it would be polite to introduce myself. So hi, i'm Alex! nice to meet you all.

  6. Hey Guys! So I have big project coming up that I will be doing a lot of traveling for. I will be OMBing it. The shooting locations will primarily be high-altitude, cold environments, probably mountainous. I will be using a SD 664 for recording. My other gear includes and ME66, 2x Senn G3s with a B6, and TL40 lavs. I will be renting a Rycote zeppelin system as well. Primary cameras will be DSLRs (5d), and a high speed camera as well. The content will be primarily single subject interviews of athletes documentary style. So the interviews will take place indoors and outdoors in a variety of conditions. There may be action shots also of the athletes in their element. My goal is to capture clean, wind free dialogue (obviously), but also capture some nice ambience of the environments we will be shooting in. The production company has an Audio Technica BP4029 Stereo/MS Shotgun that they are going to let me use as well. Anyone have experience with these kinds of microphones? A few questions: -Any ideas on some wireless systems that might perform better under these conditions? I hardly trust my G3s. -Good stereo mic to rent for ambience? -Any tips on keeping the gear working in cold temperatures? -Does cold weather affect the life of NP1-style batteries? I just want to prepare my self as best as possible for this shoot. Anything helps!! Thanks
  7. i was wondering how to make my petrol bag work well with my 664. any help would be great Thanks, Taylor
  8. I did some location audio many years ago but have spent most of my career in post. Some of my clients, unhappy with their location audio talked me into getting back in. I'm having fun. I have a bag with an SD302, Lectro UM400 & LMA feeding a Lectro SRa, Comtek 216s. I'm building a bag cart and anticipate 95% of my time will be sitting at the cart. Most of my output goes to a DSLR. I thought I'd upgrade a little and am looking at a 664 vs Nomad 10. If I purchase the Nomad it will be because of size (for the bag) and the network. It looks like a compact, efficient system. Zaxnet is attractive but I don't to want buy new reliability problems. So, I would appreciate any comments on general reliability of the Sound Devices vs. Zaxcom mixer/recorders and Zaxcom vs. Lectrosonics wireless systems. Interested in quick comments as to failure rates and performance on the job. Thanks!
