  1. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Los Angeles, CA Gordon Moore of Lectrosonics To Hold Webinar On The Spectrum Transition - On August 26th, 2018, Gordan Moore of Lectrosonics will conduct a live webinar on the transition out of the 600 MHz band of the UHF spectrum, along with the new masking regulations about to go into effect. At the request of IATSE Local 695, and the vendor community in Hollywood, Moore will attempt to clear up the confusion surrounding the upcoming FCC deadlines. From Gordon Moore: Still confused or concerned about the Spectrum Transition? IATSE Local 695 with the support of our entire vendor community, have invited Gordon Moore of Lectrosonics to have an online GoToMeeting event which will discuss the spectrum changes, the regulatory changes and the details of the future deadlines as the transition winds its way to completion. He will cover certifications, Part 15 v Part 74, deviation and spectral mask changes (what IS the ETSI mask?), and the impact on the location sound mixer. The session should last between 45 minutes to an hour and there will be a Q&A session at the end. This session is limited to 250 on-line attendees – but if we actually “sell out”, we will schedule additional sessions in September. This discussion will be brand and product neutral and cover the regulations and changes that affect your current gear and your future gear considerations. 3. Interesting article from Wired: https://www.wired.com/story/microsoft-is-hustling-us-with-white-spaces/ Best Regards, Larry F
  4. As suggested by Jim, here is a single thread suitable for updating information and discussing current issues and activities that affect the radio spectrum we use in our work, particularly for our wireless systems. As Jim suggested I "moderate" this thread, please feel free to post information here, and I'll advise if there are any concerns... OK ??
  5. Sennheiser announced today that they have filed a petition with the FCC to compensate owners of wireless equipment which will be made obsolete due to the coming auction of the 600 mHz band. Some of you may be familiar with how this was handled in the UK, where the government compensated individuals whose equipment was rendered unusuable due to re-allocation of spectrum. Don't know if this will fly in the good 'ole US of A, but you never know. Press release here:http://en-us.sennheiser.com/news-sennheiser-petitions-fcc-to-compensate-owners-of-wireless-microphone-equipment-as-spectrum-faces-repacking-for-second-time- --S
  6. Group, The second forty five day database trial for a White Space database administrator, will begin on Wednesday December 7th. Telecordia will begin its trial at 12:01 EST. 7. Hi Folks, At last months AES, Henry Cohen chaired a seminar entitled, "TVBDs and Geo-Location Databases: An In-Depth Look and Their Impact on Wireless Microphone Usage" with an all star group of panelists. Here's the write up from AES' website: Panelists : Jesse Caulfield, Key Bridge Global Joe Ciaudelli, Sennheiser USA Ira Keltz, Federal Communications Commission Michael Marcus, Marcus Spectrum Solutions Steve Mendelsohn, ABC NY Jets David Pawlik, Skadden Arps Edgar Reihl, Shure, Inc. James Stoffo, independent entertainment production RF coordinator Television band devices (TVBD) are a reality and the first of the geo-location databases directing TVBD operations are in the testing phase. Operating wireless microphones, IEMs, intercoms and cueing in this new environment requires understanding how the databases work and the rules governing both licensed and unlicensed wireless production equipment. This panel brings together a diverse group of individuals intimately involved from the beginning with TVBDs, databases and the new FCC rules as well as seasoned veterans of medium to large scale wireless microphone deployments to discuss how the databases operate, how to use the database for registering TV channel usage, and best procedures and practices to insure minimal problems. Because this topic will define the future of wireless mics for the foreseeable future, we asked Henry if we could video tape the seminar. Here are the links: Part 1: http://vimeo.com/32188941 Part 2: http://vimeo.com/32197887 Please note that due to union regulations at the Javits, we were limited to a single camera "anthropological" record of the event, and no audio feed - I had to post-sync the mp3 recording of the seminar to the video! But, there is an amazing amount of information and opinions expressed at the seminar. We are in the middle of writing an in-depth article on the new TVBDs and their effect on wireless mics which will appear in next month's Gazette, but in the mean time this video has a lot of information. One thing is clear: If you are eligible for a Part 74 FCC licence, GET IT! Peter Schneider Gotham Sound
