  1. Low volume recording w/SD 702

    Hi Experts. I been using and learning about my Sound Devices 702 since it arrived two days ago and it is a fantastic machine. As I am still learning about the various set-up options, I am wondering if you think I am missing something real crucial: My recordings are GREAT, however, the volume is real real low. (when I look at my recordings using adobe Audition on my computer they are generally around MINUS 40) I have it on custom set-up with phantom power, Input 1 feeding BOTH tracks A and B, using a Rode NTG-2 at 24 bit depth and 48Ksample rate. The input gain on input one is pretty high --- I have it on the " 2:00 " position if this were a clock face. Oh, my limiter is ON. Do you have any suggestions?? I read the manual and it said that there are two different gain ranges a "NORMAL" and a "LOW RANGE", the Low Range says that is suitable for high SPL environments...BUT I cannot tell which of these ranges I have chosen.   2. Hey guys, My first post here, so I apologize in advance for any lame questions... I just got a Sound Devices 702, and i'm planning on using it with contact mics for sound design, not so much for film, just mainly experimental audio recordings. I've got a pair of JrF C-Series contact mics, a Barcus Berry 4000 contact mic and a pair of Oktava MK-319 mics. After looking through the menu's i'm a little overwhelmed, and just want to make sure i'm setting it up to record my files a decent way. There are different options for signal routing and recording bit-rates and I was hoping I could get some suggestions on good settings to use. I do most of my mixing in garageband, and i'm not sure if the 24bit wav will be friendly with that. I know I need to just spend time with it, but I was just hoping for any helpful tips I could get for you guys. Thanks in advance for any help! I'm really excited to start doing some field recordings!
  3. Headphone Send to Director From 702

    Hey Guys, I'm looking for the best way to do a headphone send from a 702, so the director can monitor as well. At the moment I'm thinking of taking a send from either the TA3 Master Out (using just L or R channel) or the Tape Out (not sure which would be better) to a Lectro LMa. This would then transmit to a Lectro R1a which the director would have his cans plugged into. Is this the best way to go about it? Would this even work? Do you have a better way I can do this? Any help is much appreciated! Cheers, Jo

This time I'm covering my time in the Jungle village of Sauraha. http://soundrelated.com/elephants-and-tigers-and-a-rhino-oh-my/ Elephant football and beauty pageants, canoe rides and jungle treks, wild rhinos and getting stoned off a milkshake is all to be had here.
