  1. Hey guys, I think this is dangerous ground. I don't want to start one of those "best boom mic for interior" threads anymore. I just want to know what people think of this in as "objective" a way as possible. If a moderator wants to delete this thread, feel free. I've been looking through issues of Coffey Sound and Picture and it's been really cool and all, but there was one thing I began to notice. I almost never see a mixer say they use a Schoeps MK41. I mean it's just...rare—in the magazine. Note that there are a lot of tv shows in the magazine and perhaps this may have something to do with it? The mixers who work on features also don't give MK 41 as their primary microphone. Most frequently I see Schoeps CMIT and Sennheiser MKH 50. Just wondering what's up with that. I think only for RVD and JW himself did I see a mixer say they were using a Schoeps MK 41. (EDIT: there were one or two others, too) Another thing to note is that, especially on the tv shows, the mixers must work with the packages that the company gives them. Over in recarts, for example, I think Vin said for West Wing they were given MKH 50s in their packages. I figure that if I were to work on one of these shows, I should use what they're using? Is it because of the two cameras that they would use microphones with a bit more reach (CMIT)? Is the protection from humidity more important than the inherent sound quality, especially since they work on sound stages (MKH 50)? Just wondering about general practice, and whether I should follow suit. Also COS-11s are just everywhere. Almost never see any other lavalier listed. (EDIT: Maybe DPA and B6 here and there) Sawrab
