  1. I've found some third party Lemo-compatible screw-on type 3-pin connectors that I much prefer over the actual Lemo version. These are the connectors that would be used with a Zaxcom transmitter, or higher end Sennheiser model. When I first got some of these I thought they were Lemo brand and that the company had improved them. Then, I realized that they were a third party version. These connectors use a tightening collar strain relief (that can be reused) rather than the crimp style that Lemo screw-ons have. Picture a strain relief more like what Neutrik XLRs use. They are easier to both wire and assemble (you don't need a special tool) and can be reused. One caution is that if you're removing a previous cable, be very careful not to pry the tiny strain relief "fingers" out too far (in order to release the old cable), as they can break. Including the vinyl boot, the original Lemo version is made up of seven parts, this one has only five. The vinyl boot comes standard with this version, whereas you need to order it separately with the actual Lemo. These connectors seem to screw on and off the Zaxcom transmitters easier than the actual Lemos. ...Oh, and they cost less, too. I stumbled onto a few some time back and then searched for months to find a source for them -- to finally discover they are readily available via our regular suppliers -- if only you know what to ask for and where to tell the dealer to source them from. It's a simple as: Call your favorite professional sound dealer (what we here call, "The Usual Suspects") and tell them to order "Reusable 3-Pin Lemo Connectors" from Redding Audio. The Redding Part Number is "RED16". They can be found on the Audio Limited price list. Redding Audio is the distributor for Schoeps, Rycote, Ambient, and Voice Technologies, among others, so any professional sound dealer who serves our industry, already has a working relationship with them. The top photo below is of a standard Lemo screw-on 3-pin connector (minus the boot), and the bottom photo is of the improved (in my opinion) connector. This version may even end some people's hatred of wiring Lemo connectors.
  2. I'm looking at what could be a good deal on some 4061s that are hardwired to Sennheiser TRS, and I'd like to redo them in Senn/AudioLtd/Wisy/Lectro SSM-compatible 3-pin Lemo. From what I've researched a bit, one would need the right connector to get the right cable diameter for the strain relief to work properly. Any clues on the right connector and a European source?
  3. Hi All, Having updated to the :Wave I would like to make its power cable. I have Switchcraft 761K for BDS and am looking for the appropriate 2-pin lemo for the :Wave. I have a source for these that needs to know if these are "0B" or "1B"? Any help would be appreciated. RL
  4. Dear All, hello. I am new to this forum and I am delighted to have been accepted. Good to meet you all. I have a request for some wiring advice. As a former broadcast engineer I should know the answer but audio post was always my thing, not radio kit. I have acquired some old Micron TX101 transmitters and receivers. I have also managed to acquire two lemo 8-pin connectors and I want to connect a Sony ECM-77b or 55b with XLR battery packs to the transmitters via an adapter cable (phantom not required as will be using batteries). However, I am not sure of the correct wiring of these cables. I discovered a really good general wiring document online from Danish broadcaster Channel 6 that has two possibilities and I have attached a screen-grab. I presume I should go with the first option but I would appreciate some knowledgeable advice. Thanks in advance. TX101 ScreenGrab.tiff
  5. Im trying to make a lemo 5pin to 1/4" trs time code cable to lay tc into boom recorder from my 664 and am confused about the wiring on the trs end. Any thoughts if I am on the right track? Lemo: pin 5 (tc), pin 1 (ground) 1/4": tip (tc), ring (not connected), sleeve(ground)
  6. I thought since I have taken so much from this forum I should give something back. My ERX2TCD would not jam an Alexa the other day with a custom lemo/5pin xlr split cable I made. The problem turned out to be not enough voltage coming from the ERX2TCD's default timecode output voltage of .062. This was enough voltage to pass the test of jamming my 664, but not enough for the camera. Here's the fix: enter the extended menu by powering down the receiver and power up while holding the menu button, scroll though the options by pressing the menu button until you get to the "TC Output Level" menu. Use the arrows to turn it up to 0.250. Hope this helps someone. cheers, Andy
