  2. Hello all, A British company I have worked with for years who film theatre shows and musicals for online promotion need a NYC local Recordist on Sunday the 22nd and Tuesday 24th November on Broadway. The Sunday will be about three hours 'work' as it will be just taking a feed from the desk to get the LR music feed from a live show. The Tuesday will be four scenes from the show, theatre crew doing the micing and FOH desk work. No orchestra that day so playback of the Sunday recording and recording the desk feed of performance dialogue and singing whilst it's filmed, probably a couple of runs on each scene. Supply a nice stereo mix of the two together for immediate use and Bob's your uncle. No audience atmos etc required, just the desk feeds, jam the cameras and enjoy nice sit down job in the stalls whilst the Camera dept do all the work. So who's game?
  3. Hi Gang, I've been reading this forum for a long while now trying to learn as much as I can. Thank you everyone for the experience and insight that you have shared. It has been invaluable in supplementing my education. I graduated from Temple University's Film program in May, and have just recently made the move from Philadelphia to NYC. Having been decided on sound from the start, I worked as a Boom Op and Sound Recordist throughout the past 5 years on student and independent films, and more recently interviews for online news and corporate projects. Now I wish to continue on the path, and am available as a sound utility, or as an intern. I can provide references from past projects. I hope to hear from anyone looking to add a hard worker to their team. -Christopher Scott
  4. Hi - I just bought my first hypercardioid mic: an AUDIX SCX1-HC. I'm still way within the 30 days to return it, so I really want to test some other hypers to compare with this one. Many different people on many forums have mentioned how much they love the Sennheiser MKH50 for indoors, but this is a *special order* item and if I buy it, I won't be able to be returned if I don't like it. So.... I was wondering if we can meet up in Manhattan do some tests with both my Audix and your .... Sennheiser MKH-50 Schoeps CMC6/MK41 Neumann 185 Audio Technica 4053B We can meet at a neutral location or my place on E.109th Street or I'll come to your place if it's not too far. Thanks for your consideration! - Paul

    NYC Union Advice!

Hello all, I've been a long time observer of JWsound, this is my first post. I'm a NonUnion freelance mixer based in NYC thats been working here for a couple years on mostly independent and commercial work. Lately I've been mixing and boom operating a webseries thats now starting to gain some serious traction and great press. From what I understand, the creatives have been given an offer and the show might get picked up and unionized. Honestly, I don't know enough about the unions to know how I should handle this situation. How should I best prepare myself for potentially making that transition? I believe I have enough working days and call sheets...are there any other prerequisites that I need to have solidified before its too late? Any advice from union mixers (especially in NYC) would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance. DK

Lost Zaxcom ERX2TCD in NYC area

Hey Everyone, Production took off on me before I could take my ERX off their camera. This was in Englishtown NJ, but they were on their way to Bethlehem PA and the crew is from LA. The serial number is 1173 and it had a Bodyglove EZ View case and an xlr/bnc Y output cable. (1/8">xlrm/bnc). Please get in touch with me if anyone happens to come across it.... Thanks!
  9. Hi all! If you are looking to fill any position in the sound department for any production in NYC or nearby, look no further! I'm available to work as a mixer, boom op, or third. I graduated from NYU with a degree in Music Tech, taking many classes in film production and film sound, as well as working in over 20+ student films mostly as a mixer or boom op. While at NYU, I was mentored by production sound mixer Chat Gunter. I now have a few years of experience in production sound under my belt, and before that, many more in music recording as a recording and mixing engineer. If in need of equipment rental, I own a nice kit, including Sound Devices 302 Mixer, Zaxcom Nomad 10 Mixer/Recorder, Sennheiser MKH 416 shotgun mic, pair of AKG Blueline modular microphones, and Sennheiser wireless. I have superb work ethic, which some have claimed to be second to none! Looking forward to meeting and working with you!
