Lynne T
About to shoot in northern Quebec with a Deva IV at very cold temperatures ranging from -10 celsius to -30 celsius (probably up to -40 with the wind chill). Wondering if anyone has had any experience with the Deva in extreme cold? How does the touchscreen fare?
patrickveigel
I've quite used my Fusion in very cold nights @ temperatures around -20°C. No problems.
Marc Wielage
I would worry about the hard drive in temperatures this cold. A heated case is probably warranted, but the old Deva brochure stated: "Temperature range (operating) - 20-110 degrees Fahrenheit." 20C = -4F. I worked in post on a feature shot in Chicago a couple of years ago, and the footage went out of sync because the film camera started having trouble staying at a constant speed at 0 degrees. The sound (done on a Sound Devices 744t) was fine. Damndest thing I ever saw.
Lynne T
Thanks for your responses guys. Marc, do you have any recommendations on the heated bag situation?
Audio Daddyo
You can use chemical hand warmers in your bag. http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=chemical+hand+warmers&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=6309168724019769698&sa=X&ei=Qq4eT_fuNqaZ0QGbg7AH&ved=0CJIBEPMCMAE
