geordi
I would suspect that the "A crew" rate is so low partly b/c they secretly KNOW that it is a giant clusterfuck and no mixer will survive that mess for too long, so they will be rotating the poor sucker out constantly. Better to not pay a lot of money while abusing the serf, says the business school mindset. The B crew stuff sounds like the reality TV "confessional" booth where they just sit and talk to the camera. Sound is usually MUCH better in these on shows like Survivor, Top Shot, Amazing Race... So they feel they are paying a skilled mixer for the best quality sound from that setup... Not realizing (or just not caring) that THAT is a cake gig compared to the battlefield of the first setup. The "A" crew wouldn't be so much of a mess if they would just have one mixer for each camera... But that uses too much logic for a producer to process.
