Richard Thomas
http://www.icon-global.com/ShowPro.aspx?ID=135 Looks interesting- pretty compact controller, 100mm motorized faders and DC powered (not sure if it's 5V or 9V). Price is around £
Mark Andrews
You had me all excited there that it might be a really cut down and cheap Digidesign Icon for Pro Tools. Surprised they don't get some form of lawsuit for using the name. ~Mark.
Jay Rose
On the other hand, their line looks like a good alternative to Mackie... or that it will be, once they get their act together. Looks like a work-in-progress for now.
Eric Berzins
Personally, I don't think I'd buy from a company I'd never heard of before calling themselves iCon.
Richard Thomas
Lawsuit from apple, avid or both? It's not a great name, slight pun on the compny name/apple connection (can companies stop calling stuff iThings). But it's better than 'Kit Cool'. They also do a cheap version of the mackie control. I got in touch with the company, they got back quickly and it runs off 12V. I asked what voltage range it would take but they said they don't advise running it off other voltages
Richard Thomas
I went and bought one of these- plugged it in, set Samplitude to Mackie Control and hey- it works. It's a bit bigger, heavier (almost 2kg) and more solid than I thought (bear in mind it's got 100mm faders), although the main connection's on a mini USB which doesn't fill me with confidence but there's a fairly thick chunk of moulded plastic round it so at least the connector might not break off easily. The faders require slight downward pressure in order to activate them (otherwise you're working against the motor) It also seems to work off USB bus power without the motorised faders being active
OmahaAudio
The website says "Mackie control build-in for Cubase, Nuendo, Samplitude, Logic Pro and Abelton Live" but will it work with Pro Tools?
Richard Thomas
It's got a mapping for pro tools in the software, so I'd assume it works too
