atheisticmystic
Just another sign that I'm green; apparently the rest of you dream of lo-ball producers "choking on their own vomit". I'll get there someday...no rush.
studiomprd
" How many boom ops belong to the talent unions? " actually a number of sound folks are in SAG-AFTRA... though on low budget agreements non-members can typically be freely used.
sounddguy
This one's going to sound great: Need a fill in Cinematographer for Reality Show Pilot Scene being shottonight in Atlanta. 8/17 From about 5pm-9pm Budget is : $100 for 4-6 hours. No editing required. Just would need the footage after shoot. Currently their is a lead Cinematographer for the project but due to scheduling not available for Saturday so we need one for that time frame. Looking for someone who shoots HD, High Quality, Good light and Has Wireless Mic for Sound for Conversations amongst cast members
Marc Wielage
He's mad and he won't take it any longer… http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/cwg/4004969002.html In case this ad gets taken down... Sound Mixers with Gear ARE 350DAY minimum STOP BEGGING you loosers (Hollywood) we spend (2000 )THATS TWO THOUSAND for ONE WIRELESS MICROPHONE and you want several of them AND OF COURSE YOU WANT LABOR AND A BOOM OPERATOR a second person----that is required for Physics (you cant mix and make a good recording--if you are swinging a pole...LOL) but you have a shithead idea---------that we work for TACO BELL MINIMUM WAGE BRING SENNHEISER MICS FOR FREE OHHH__ AND BRING A SECOND PERSON FOR FREE we dream of you choking to death on your own vomit ------------------------------------------------------------------------- I sympathize with the poster, but I think the vast majority of people who put up help wanted ads on Craigslist are not going to appreciate or understand the sentiments. I've had clashes with cheap bottom-feeder producers before where they have no clue that just the book-rate rental on one wireless channel is about $75 a day. Whey want five or six of these a day, that alone dwarfs the day-rate in their pointy little heads. Many of them are clueless as to the cost of good sound gear, particularly in that it's not unusual for a truckload worth of gear to cost as much or more than an Alexa... an Alexa for which they're spending $1000 a day in rental. sounddguy
*Need an Audio with own rig and would be great to have atleast 5 mic's, (but we are need of 7) and a boom mic. Or, 3 shotgun mic's and a boom Let's see, three on one boom? That's gonna be kinda heavy. <G>
atheisticmystic
You know whats weird about that sound person rant, would someone with experience actually claim that a wireless "microphone" costs 2K?
Jay Rose
would someone with experience actually claim that a wireless "microphone" costs 2K? Well, I don't know of any lavs that cost $2k by themselves. But a topnotch lav + body pack can easily come in around there. Receiver will be a couple of $k more, of course. Hey... it was a rant. Don't expect every word to be dictionary-perfect. Lots of folks call the mic + transmitter + receiver a "wireless mic".

Doug Beatty
Saturday: it's going to be a longish day (12hrs). 7.30pm-12pm: this is the KEY sequence. We're basically going out on thetown with four girls, and filming them guerrilla at different places, ending up at a dance party. It's going to be super improvised, so I'd like all four to be mic'd, andthen boomed (where possible). We'll probably need a total of six wirelessmics, plus some plants.I think it could be really awesome from a sound point of view - but knowthat you're a bit light on equipment at the moment. We could try and getour hands on some more wireless stuff. Our rate will be the same - $250 for the day My answer will be the same: no-ish

SeeKai
The last two lines are hilarious. Yeah guys I guess it's helpful if you've done anything vaguely in that area before... Go back to producer school?http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/cwg/4014698252.html "We are a small film production working on an advertisement / commercial for a real estate development company. This is an opportunity to network with an upcoming film crew that is soon to be a strong player in the corporate world. We need a Boom Operator for Sunday August 25 and Monday August 26. jozzafunk
An email I got the other day contained this "I have very little budget on this project as it's all coming out of my pocket but my work ethic is that everyone gets paid so I would try to pay you a fair rate. The shoot is planned over two days which will be Sat/Sun" I don't know whether to be more insulted by the rate or by being lied to ..... the rate..... $50 a day.
