fieldmixer
I travel a lot on shoots, I REALLY enjoy eating well on the road and generally always spend all my per diem and more. Dinner at a standout restaurant after wrap is something I really look forward to and sometimes the highlight of the trip! Although it is easier than ever finding good eats with iPhones and such, it's hard to beat a good recommendation. I know this is a DISCUSSION group, but I'd love to have a go-to thread to just find good reccos. If I may be so bold to suggest a framework for replys, to keep it clean and easy to scroll through, First: list city in CAPS, (then country/state/province) Then; one or two REALLY REALLY good restaurants (in bold font?) address, and website. If applicable, indicate if lunch or dinner. And finally; a recco with say, fav apps, dishes and details. What say you? Thread open. Yum:) So: CITY, restaurant, address, website, recco. Eric Toline
For great Caribean food it's Calypso in Pompano Beach Florida. For seafood it's the Whales Rib in Hillsboro Beach Florida especially if you love oysters & lobster. Eric
Johnny Karlsson
I love this idea. The "problem" for me is to pick just two places. I admit that I'm a total foodie, and have been in Southern California for 18 years. I have at least 100 favorites (probably way more than that actually). If anyone is heading to LA, feel free to PM me or ask here for a specific type of food, or by nationality, and I could recommend a few places specific to your taste. I could also recommend some great places in Japan and Sweden if you're heading there. Here's a few that come to mind at the moment: LOS ANGELES: Bottega Louis, in Downtown Los Angeles http://www.bottegalouie.com/ great for breakfast, lunch or dinner (awesome macaroons too) Papa Cristo's, Greek food, Los Angeles http://www.papacristos.com/ Sapp Coffee Shop, Thai Town / Hollywood 5183 Hollywood Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90027 Good authentic Thai food. The Boat Noodles are absolutely fantastic. Wurstkuche, downtown L.A. 800 E 3rd St Los Angeles, CA 90013 http://www.wurstkuche.com/ The Rattle Snake & Rabbit brats are delicious! For those who don't eat meat (these are great even if you are not vegetarian): Paru's Indian Vegetarian Restaurant, Hollywood 5140 W Sunset Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90027 http://www.parusrestaurant.com/ Elf Cafe', Echo Park 2135 W Sunset Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90026 http://www.elfcafe.com/ >>> OK, back to meat Din Tai Fung, 1088 S Baldwin Ave Arcadia, CA 91007 http://www.dintaifungusa.com Best dumplings ever. Period. Manuel's Original El Tepeyac Cafe 812 N Evergreen Ave Los Angeles, CA 90033 Great Mexican food! The biggest burrito I have ever seen, it will get 4 hungry people completely full. (Ok, I'll give it a rest now a rest now)

deep owl
Johnny, you've got some great ones here! Bottega Louis and Wurtskuche are pretty top-notch. Since I've lived in So. Cal. all my life, for the L.A. area I'll add: The Federal Bar in North Hollywood http://www.thefederalbar.com/ Great for lunch or dinner and good drinks Golden Road Brewery in Burbank/Glendale http://goldenroad.la/place/#/pub Never been for lunch but dinner is great. They have many vegetarian/vegan options and the beer is fresh Versaille on the west side http://www.versaillescuban.com/ Great cuban dinner! If you like chicken and garlic this is your place Mario's Peruvian on Melrose and Vine The Saltado for dinner is epic! If you see 'The Flatiron Truck', they've got about the best steak and arugula salad ever. Lunch or dinner. Bossa Nova on Sunset and Formosa is great for Brazilian lunch or dinner. http://www.bossanovafood.com Yucca Flour + Plantains...so good! Al Wazir Chicken on Hollywood/Gower for Mediterranean lunch or dinner. http://alwazirchicken.com/ One of my oldest favorites. Chicken Shawarma is awesome and they have some of the best baklava If you're in O.C. check out Vietnam's Pearl on Fairview/Baker in Costa Mesa Lunch is great. Always get rice with a fried egg on it! Sandwich World in Costa Mesa (Bristol South of Red Hill) for LUNCH ONLY http://www.sandwichworld.net/ It's like Subway...but they use top quality meats and bread delivered from NYC. If you're ever in Omaha Nebraska try BrewBurgers http://www.brewburgersomaha.com/ I remember the food was great and the drinks were wonderful. If ever in Austin Texas get out to the Salt Lick BBQ http://www.saltlickbbq.com/ Only been for dinner and it's one of the best places in the world If ever in Little Rock Arkansas or Memphis Tennessee try Corky's BBQ http://www.corkysbbq.com/ Really good BBQ, cool place, and way cheaper than I expected. I'd love to keep listing places all over So. Cal. and the rest of the country but I'm not Anthony Bourdain so I'll stop

OmahaAudio
IF you're going to be in Paris AND you're going to be there with a significant other then do yourselves a great big favor and book a table for lunch at the Jules Verne restaurant in the Eiffel Tower. It's got a kitchen run by Alan Ducasse and has a Michelin star. The food is amazing, the service is wonderful and the view is, of course, out of this world. Booking for lunch means that you get the same quality food served at dinner at about 1/3rd the price. That still means it'll be a $220 lunch (without wine) but it'll be a meal that you'll never forget. You can make a reservation on their website (http://www.lejulesverne-paris.com). Jim Gilchrist
My friend Troy Dick, a cameraman from Dallas, who travels lots, has a blog about the places he runs across in his travels. He's recently started over from scratch so there are only 4 places written up on the site at the moment, but Troy really likes to eat and his taste covers all the bases. Damon Richard/Reservations Best regards, Jim

Alain Ducasse, that is a little bit too hard core, even by my standards. I had the privilege of dining with some hard core foodies when I lived in NYC and never dared to venture to Alain's restaurant while I lived there. A lunch without wine does not sound too civilized at all. Tack on another hundred bucks or so for something drinkable. I had done some work for Eric Ripert, ate at pretty much all of Jeane George's places (hit or miss), hung out with a celeb or two at their favorite watering hole - was a good time to be hungry and thirsty. In reflection, I must have eaten several cows worth of steak and a school of fish in the heyday.

Marc Hoppe
SHREVEPORT, LA NOBLE SAVAGE Small, but good bar menu. The burgers and the muffuletta are excellent, and the cole slaw is superb. Every week the chef has specials, a red meat, white meat, wild game, fish, pasta, and sandwich. They are absolutely delicious and well worth the extra money. This guy can cook. Open Tuesday through Saturday. Kitchen open until midnight, special until 10PM. The margaritas there are spectacular as well- no pre-made mixture. OLIVE STREET BISTRO Delicious Italian restaurant. We went once, showed up 15 minutes before closing. We offered to go somewhere else as it was obvious that the place was empty. They re-opened the kitchen for us, treated us perfectly, and made some delicious food. I'd recommend the veal.

Also in Las Vegas Texas De Brazil. You can eat till you explode. Brazilian steak house. They bring out meat on giant skewers that look like swords, and they just keep coming and coming until you tell them to stop. Words cannot describe the awesome. Bacon wrapped filet mignon...mmmmmm...
