Yelmarb
I'm trying to pull apart a 4 pin Hirose plug but I've not got very far with it. Just doesn't seem to be anything obvious past the screw-on crimping collar. Is there some trick with the spring loaded outer collar or is there another part I need to unscrew? Simon Hayter
Now you need to plug it into something and unscrew the body from the plug with a spanner (wrench?) or pliers. Those flat sides above the knurled bit. Good luck
Tom Visser
A correction, you are looking at a Hirose connector, not Lemo. (Japanese v Swiss)
Yelmarb
Brilliant, thanks guys.
RandyHall
Yeah, the only way I've gotten into a Hirose is to have a jack to use as an anchor to hold the plug while unscrewing the retaining nut. Kinda a pain, but once you're in there, it's easier than a LEMO.
Yelmarb
A little further down the line with this. Are you guys using a special crimping tool on these Hirose crimps (pic attached) or just a pair pliers?
Wyatt Tuzo
I've done plenty without, but if you have a crimper die for rg58, that works nicely.
Yelmarb
Cool, I do have that RG58 hex crimper in fact. Sweet, I'll give that a try
jonathan chiles
The Hirose connectors with the chuck type strain relief as in OP work.. I have had no luck using the brass crimp collar strain relief and grub screw in Yelmarbs last post.. for me that is a terrible system to try and line up and I just end up filling the connector with epoxy to hold everything in place and stop the wires and pins twisting. Soundbite
@Yelmarb, pliers worked for me, but becareful not to send the barbs into the cable. Jons right as well - takes a bit of trial and error to line the crimp up properly. All the same I think its an improvement on the old style one.
