soundslikejustin
New in inverted commas because it's really just an update to the casing, nothing new on the inside. http://www.zaxcom.com/erx-series
dominiquegreffard
Yeah this is probably better than previous edition. A new aluminium casing would have been even better still. I just wish my dealer could have told me these were coming b4 i purchased an another one a month ago... Fyi zax can upgrade your erx's to this new generation for 125$ and a trip to the mothership on your bill

Vincent R.
Anyone here got a damaged or broken case? Other words: is it needed?
Derek H
Good job Zaxcom for responding to the many user complaints regarding the volume knob being vulnerable. I'm wondering if the new composite material will also be adopted in all the LT series transmitters. I was under the impression it was all the same stuff. As far as I know, the case could not be entirely aluminum due to the internal antenna array. Same reason your cellphone can't have an all metal case. Jeff Wexler
The material being used in the new ERX is the same material, I believe, that is used for the LT series transmitters. I think it is a better choice than the aluminum mentioned (and certainly if aluminum would be an issue for RF performance with this particular design). My LT transmitters have held up exceptionally well and show no signs of age compared to my much older TRX900 metal cased transmitters. MatthewFreedAudio
I've had 6 ERX 1 units for quite a while and have never had a broken case. The case is quite good. I put them in a BlackBerry case whenever they are put on a camera or given out to other people. The volume knob and 1/8" jack were the I only places I could see needing improvements. Looks like that's exactly what they did. Production Sound Mixing for Television, Films, and Commercials.www.matthewfreed.com
Mike Wally
Does it have better range or something? Otherwise, pass.
RadoStefanov
Very good news. 2 of my 5 have a broken volume knob but I am using them for TC only and the working 3 for ifb.Sent from my Lumia 900 using Board Express

MatthewFreedAudio
Does it have better range or something? Otherwise, pass. This has more to do with your transmitter than the receiver. Are you using the IFB transmitter built in to a Nomad or QRX? The Nomad transmits at 50mw while the IFB100 transmits at 100mw. I use an IFB100 with my Fusion 12 and get excellent range. Mike Wally
I was half kidding. I meant to say that unless there is like something that makes the unit better internally, I don't believe in the Apple method of upgrading for a small, tiny assthetic change. From the description on the Zaxcom website it looks like they also added holes for a belt clip and the resin body is different than the ERX1. It also says the ERX 2 can now display scene and take info in addition to timecode. I'm assuming this software upgrade will be available for those of us with ERX1 receivers but I haven't checked their forum yet for a software update. Brian Liston
I had a volume knob break on me just yesterday. This is a good move to toughen up these little useful guys.

I meant to say that unless there is like something that makes the unit better internally, I don't believe in the Apple method of upgrading for a small, tiny assthetic change. The new ERX is not a "tiny aesthetic change" --- the casing is now an entirely different material, superior in all respects to the original ERX1. The design problem with the original volume knob has been solved. I have no idea what the "tiny aesthetic (design) changes" Apple has made that bother you --- you make it sound like this is a regular thing with Apple, and Zaxcom I guess, which is hardly the case as far as I can tell. The thing that legitimately could bother a lot of us, and this IS something that Apple does, is the introduction of a new model that is better than the one you bought yesterday. Zaxcom is offering an upgrade path that seems reasonable to me (and this is something that Apple rarely provides).

I'm on my phone between takes working on what will be my fourth 14hr day...no OT From what you have now informed me, I can see that it is indeed worthy of being a follow up. Christian Spaeth
Looks like a worthy upgrade but I'll be okay using my ERX1. The volume knob looks the same, I guess they just added the plastic around it to protect it better. I only ever use mine on cameras or as an IFB for my boom op and he takes care of it. If someone is planning to use them like Comteks (would need a good antenna and/or amp for that btw) surely the ERX2 is the better choice. It also says the ERX 2 can now display scene and take info in addition to timecode. I have an ERX1TCD and it can display scene and take info. Cloud Wang
and i think what would be also nice is that the SWITCH button also need a protection to prevent mistake turning off the unit by accident
