Marc Wielage
I just had a conversation with an editor/friend of mine about these low-budget "Labor of Love" projects. Without even thinking, I blurted out... The problem with these Labor of Love projects is: it's OUR labor and THEIR love! So that's another T-shirt. As god is my witness, I'm going to use this line, the next time I get into a conversation with one of these producers...
Henchman
Absolutely right on that. Also, these labour if loves, want cheep to free labour, but will not sign anything as far as promising an potential future revenue, to those giving their time for free. Personally, unless it's a longtime repeat client who I have worked on dent and good paying gigs on, I have zero interests in giving any free time. Richard Ragon
I think we need to start a database of proper responses to the same 'spil' over and over.. Producer: "The DP is giving away all his gear to us, because he believes in the project.." Response: "That's awesome.. you should have the money to then to pay for your sound mixer now". Producer: "This is a labor of love project.." Response: ".. Our Labor, and your Love" Producer: "this project will serve as a nice demo reel" Response" "actually, making a short, is nothing more than a huge expensive business card, that I can't use.." Producer: "I can't afford the gear". Response" ".. neither can I!!" please, add in some more here.. -Richard
Marc Wielage
I love that, Richard. This is like those old Mad magazine cartoons: "Al Jaffee's Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions!"
