Yamaha / Steinberg "Nuage" and N6

Recommended Posts

For all you Nuendo users, some interesting new stuff coming down the pipe...

First off is the new software side of things, Cubase 7 and Nuendo 6.

Even more interesting is the hardware controller made by partner Yamaha.

It seems to promise ICON like integration, but smartly made in a modular format. A big bravo for making the centre section in a standalone product with expandable fader buckets. I don't know what pricing is like, but it should come in quite cheaper than Avid, obviously great for existing Nuendo users, but will it be enough to attract switchers en masse? With Avid's financial woes, one wonders if Nuendo will be nicely positioned to scoop up a bunch of new users if for some reason Avid went under.

Included in the party are 16x16 analog, 16x16 digital, and 8x8x8 analog/digital DANTE based audio interfaces.

I'm a bit dubious about the PCI-e based DSP card, not sure if this is a modular optional add-on or if it is mandatory for real-world use in a zero latency TDM/HDX world. I would have thought that a move to a potentially cheaper audio interface and controller with built in DSP would have been more attractive economically.
