48v-12T power adapter in bag.. how to avoid power drop outs?

I recently got my SD 664 and want to use my schoeps CMC4/MK41

which needs 12T power, which the 664 doesn't have.

I've owned the PSC 48v-12T adapter for a few years,

but only use it when not wearing a bag as I've found the power will drop out

if the the barrel gets moved around too much.

I'm trying to figure out a solution to avoid buying a CMC6  or CMC5,

though I know might have to.

Has anyone used the 12T barrel adapter in a bag with success

and avoided the power dropping out?

I'm thinking about making a cable with the 12t barrel taped or

shrink sealed to the xlr connectors so movement is limited..

but thought I'd see if anyone here had any good suggestions?

Thanks for the suggestion Vin..

I didn't think it could be faulty as it was bought new and  hasn't gotten too much use, but you might be right.

It sounds like you haven't had this problem when using the adpater in the bag.

I'll pickup a new one or get it checked out and hopefully the problem goes away.

" I've found the power will drop out

broken or a bad cable or connection...

" good to know it shouldn't do this "

of course it shouldn't!

" I'll troubleshoot some more and try to determine whether it is a cabling/connector issue

or if it is infact the adapter itself. "

troubleshooting 101

" I didn't think it could be faulty as it was bought new and  hasn't gotten too much use, "

CRAP happens

" PSC make a good one that's pretty low cost. "

that is what he said he has...

I got my local audio shop to put in 48V to T power circuitry in the xlr boots of the little cable that goes from the boom mic to the bottom of the Rycote handle. Someone suggested that to me. Never gets banged around in the bag.

Hey Chris, I'll   +1 the idea that you have a problem with your adapter.  I've had 2 for 15 years and I just wore out one to the point where it got a little crackly when it was jostled.  Not bad, but enough to bug me - but never did I actually lose audio.     I replaced the crackly adapter with my spare and now have the barrel adapter taped to my mixer and short xlr cables to attach to the mixer and my boom cable.  So the adapter can't move and won't get physically worn by continuous plugging and unplugging...

Cheers,
