Michael P Clark
I have a newer style VDB, that frankly it is not the quietest pole in the world when extracting and retracting. What boom pole do you trust when it comes to quiet extraction/retraction and internal cable noise?
Sergio Sanmiguel
I think the "quietest" is NOT the pole but the operator...

Alan H. Chang
#1 Priority, Operator #2, your boom pole
Michael P Clark
This is all very true and can't argue with that. My issue isn't handling noise from the boom op(me), but what the pole does. What I am experiencing is a whistling from the bottom of the pole where the air pushes out when you collapse the pole. And whistling drag at the knuckle portions of the pole. It almost sounds like a zipper being zipped up on a tent, but not quite. I brought it up when I first got the pole to the distributor, thinking I got a bad one, but they say that their poles did the same thing. My mentor had all VDB poles and they sounded great. They were the older style. So I got the VDB when they started making them again. NOT THE SAME! Anyone experience that?
Sergio Sanmiguel
I see what you mean. I actually own a newer VDB pole and noticed the same thing but since I never owned an older one I really cant tell the difference, although I can adjust the length of the pole on the fly without disturbing or making noticeable noise... studiomprd
only the Fisher Booms are designed to extend and retract noiselessly!
Glen Trew
The Ambient and Panamic poles are probably the quietest when sliding in and out.
