DVD's and upconverts them to very near HD quality.

I never knew enough about HD-DVD to understand how it would take a (PAL) 720x576 field and upconvert it to any HD resolution. I guess those algorithms are commodity now, I didn't realise they'd made it into consumer devices. I always assumed "near HD quality" was marketing speak for "576 interpolated isn't that far off 720P, y'know?".
