Christian Spaeth
I have a few projects that I recorded in surround (4 channel, L, R, Ls, Rs) and I would like to export them to a format that can be listened to on stereo headphones, preserving the surround effect. I would do this from Logic if possible. Any rcommendations for plugins and such to do the job?
pkautzsch
Sorry, not really a plug-in, but a filtering approach using Blauert's bands could work. That's basically just some EQ settings, and I've successfully tried this to get "Fernchöre" (distant ensembles) in a Schütz oratorio recording to appear sort-of rear. Christian Spaeth
That's quite interesting, but there must be some kind of plugin that does this without filtering, no? After all what is all that stereo headphone surround talk about? I'm not sure I want to eq the material...

conleec
Flux HEar is a plugin which does a credible job of presenting surround sound in stereo headphones. It was recently upgraded to AAX 64bit too, so it works great in PT11. Chris Conlee
Johnny Karlsson
Logic comes with a pretty cool thing called "binaural panner" and binaural post processing to make sure the mix will sound ok in speakers as well. Check out the manual for details, it's too much to try to explain here. Richard Thomas
Beyerdyanmic headzone works, it's a hardware box though- so may have to record the output

Jay Rose
Bear in mind this is a binaural effect. It's not true binaural spatial perception, which depends on the folds in your ears (and varies with each individual). Instead, it's an algorithmic approximation based on well researched head related transfer functions. Pretty good, and amazing when you hear it. But not the same as using a binaural mic to record a live orchestra. And you're upmixing(?) from quad, rather than starting with a binaural recording. TDP
Might want to check out the tools at newaudiotechnology.com Been using them with relative success lately. Very easy company to deal with as well. Sees to focus primarily on surround formats for headphone listening… Found Flux Hear V3 unstable in PT10 with CPTK but could just be my system…
