New Kid on The Block: Nagra VI

You can bet that the preamps are stellar ...

I has certainly evolved into a thing of beauty... I am glad they went with the black faceplate instead of that royal blue preliminary version that we saw last year...

Is that a speaker on top?

I believe this was in the 8K price range .....

IF THEY ARE SMART and want to sell a few machines.

This price point would be perfect for someone who wants more than 4 but less than 8 tracks.

Am I correct that Deva and Cantar are now in the 1K range ?

I think 6 is a great, very useful "track count" ...  a mix track or two, and 4 or 5 isos if needed....

I just don't think I would want to use 8 (or 16!) very often, if at all, in a portable OTS machine.

Yes, I would probably say "no thanks"  to the around-the-neck, 6 or 7 wireless systems AND boom mic job, and save my energy for better days.

I use an 824 for my occasional cart-based 8trk work.

This new Nagra would mate very very well with the newer SQN 5S, with the 5 prefade outs..

I like the idea of having all the important interconnects for both all on the left sides!

And you gotta love the big transport Knob !

I truly would like Nagra to be successful with this recorder... I miss them !

How do you control inputs 5 & 6?

http://www.nagraaudio.com/pro/pages/products_nagra_vi.php

Your choice of blue, black, or burgundy!

Inputs 5 and 6 double as switchable AES Digital inputs

FAT32 -- AND FAT16 if you prefer !

Dual USB 2.0 (not firewire) - it would be nice if the currently unused second plug (planned for a keyboard)

could be switched to feed another hard-disk - for those of us who could care less about struggling with potentially incorrect and oft unused waste of time and effort MetaData....

There must be some menu-driven onboard mixing as there are only two analog outs, but several AES outs on some sort of

"Extension" connector... perhaps to feed a backup digital machine?

It seems quite compact and ergonomic ...
