mikewest
Years ago I recorded a political party pitch shot 16mm In post they discovered the camera was running 9% slow so when transferred the political party leader sounded like one of the Chipmonks! I had to take the tracks to a studio where they had an early pitch changer rack unit. We had to do several runs of each take because the pitch changer introduced glitches causing the man to sound like he has a speech impediment!!!!!!!!! Very funny stuff mike
Wandering Ear
It is technically possible to record the pilot tone from the camera, and use that to slave the playback rate. I built a module in reaktor that did exactly this to test a theory a while back. However, changing the playback rate changes the pitch, so your track would sound funny. You could theoretically use the recorded pilot tone to create a tempo map (ugh) and set up a Tick based track in pt, and have that track follow the tempo map, adjusting the speed without adjusting the pitch. this doesn't address all of the other points brought up in this thread, I just wanted to throw it out there that its possible to do without a nagra or by hand as suggested.
