My friend:

"I'm having a lot of fun. They have a massive 64 channel ProTools HD system that has been newly installed, and it still has yet to be booted up after being available for 3 weeks. Nice!"

Me:

"Have fun with the new ProTools desk-- I hear it's perfect for putting a USBPre2 and laptop on top of"

My friend:

"That's pretty much how i've been using it!

Oh brother.

Really?

Anther Pro-Tools sucks thread was started?

Hey Henchman--

So we found out about EQuality through some of your very informative posts on GearSlutz. It is awesome and I use it all the time. But here's the thing: WAVES plugins are definitely an industry standard that many post folks have come to expect (almost like ProTools...)

So out of curiosity, why are you so down on WAVES? Do you find that dumping them has led to any problems for you?

I know a lot of post guys here in LA who have moved away from Waves altogether.

As far as dumping waves and leading to problems. Quite the opposite.

I found a marked improvement in the quality of my dialog.

Waves plugins just don't sound good.

If you like Equality, try equilibrium.

EQuilibrium looks like the kitchen sink!-- does it sound any different than EQuality, or just add more nodes and guns in general? (something to be said for simplicity...)

I've been using RComp from waves forever-- I find it relatively transparent-- do you have any thoughts about that one?

As for dumping things for quality reasons-- I have always found (though this may be different in PT11) the time stretch in PT sorely lacking quality-wise...

My mixes definitely have improved from my looking for the best tools and using them when I like them rather than just swimming with all the fish (even the big ones) blindly.

Time Compression/Expansion tool gets pretty darn good once you swap the default processor out for X-Form. Rendering takes longer but it's much better.
