JonG
What can I say? I hate it! Are people replacing it with something else, and if so, what? Also interested in knowing peoples opinions on taking a straight cabled 16' pole and making it internally coiled? Sounds like a lot of work for an aging pole, but I'm OK with projects, and I hate seeing things retire when they can still be useful! chris_bollard
Replacing the rubber end cap (or plastic end cap too) is made more difficult by the variety of vDb poles. I have a great documentary length pole and got excited when my local agent said the had one. I dropped by with the pole and they had a number of differing sizes, but not the one I needed I improvised and bought a rubber stopper from local hardware store. Cut it down and bolted it on. Not as cushioned as the real thing but better than the slippery plastic cap.
Jim Gilchrist
Jon, I had a VdB pole with one section that had a sloppy application of adhesive which made it really noisy when cabled. It took forever to figure out but was fairly easy to fix. Since you've already used yours with a straight cable you shouldn't be surprised by it when you try, but the top section on older VdB poles is pretty narrow so installing a coiled cable might be a challenge. I've trie lots of substitutes for the original bumpers but not had any success finding something that works. Best regards, Jim
al mcguire
I have a 1989 era 16' VdB pole that Location Sound added on a tailpiece to. I'll go by the shop in a bit and get some photo's al
al mcguire
Here is the picture of the tailpiece, note the rubber bobber falls of of this pole also I keep my hand over the end while booming and add a tennis ball when it is on a C stand The first time I saw this optioon was on a pole owned by Andy Rovins
studiomprd
" the rubber bobber falls of of this pole " I always called the rubber clips we put (sort of snapped) the poles into "bobbers"..
