VDB Boom Pole Rubber Stopper/Cabling

What can I say? I hate it! Are people replacing it with something else, and if so, what?

Also interested in knowing peoples opinions on taking a straight cabled 16' pole and making it internally coiled? Sounds like a lot of work for an aging pole, but I'm OK with projects, and I hate seeing things retire when they can still be useful!

Replacing the rubber end cap (or plastic end cap too) is made more difficult by the variety of vDb poles. I have a great documentary length pole and got excited when my local agent said the had one. I dropped by with the pole and they had a number of differing sizes, but not the one I needed :(

I improvised and bought a rubber stopper from local hardware store. Cut it down and bolted it on. Not as cushioned as the real thing but better than the slippery plastic cap.

Jon,

I had a VdB pole with one section that had a sloppy application of adhesive which made it really noisy when cabled. It took forever to figure out but was fairly easy to fix. Since you've already used yours with a straight cable you shouldn't be surprised by it when you try, but the top section on older VdB poles is pretty narrow so installing a coiled cable might be a challenge.

I've trie lots of substitutes for the original bumpers but not had any success finding something that works.

Best regards,

Jim

Hi JonG,

Did you put an internally coiled cable in your VDB 16 footer?

I too am at this crossroad . . . .

Cheers,
