Moving To Chile, Chile De Santiago. Work advice.

Recommended Posts

I'm considering moving there and improving on my Spanish. Has any one any experience living and working in sound?

Typical rates and broadcast, production houses.

I have a degree and plenty of experience sound mixing for live and studio musicians too. What I basically want to know is with perseverance am I going to be able to survive or should I quit dreaming.

Thanks

Ryan.

I can say from my own experience that moving to a different country is that knowing local language is crucial and seasonal timing also helps alot. Having low cost of life to give yourself some time to establish your network is important. Get in touch with local mixers (there might be some here?) and their sound store. Make student films and smaller projects. It is coming back from the bottom but it s not impossible. Also try to get an idea of the market there. Do they have schools poppin' thousands of sound recordists a year or most recordists learn from master/apprentice relationship?

It's a big project but i m sure you can do it.

Get your social on amigo!!

Good luck!

So, you are moving from a huge center of TV and film production, as well as music, to chile? really?

Why?

  • 2 weeks later...

hey let me know when you arrive if you d like.

i move back and forth from the states, and when here in Santiago work mostly on music, old cars and motorcycles,  and the occasional commercial or short. its a pretty  tight  network, but your experience may certainly be different .  plenty foreign directors come to shoot here and use local crews. come and learn some Spanish,

Rodrigo
