Michael Miramontes
Alright, I think I'm going to try doing this every December going forward. For the month of December, starting on 12/11, I will be available for work. Any income I earn will be donated to St. Judes Children's Hospital. So, if you need a mixer, boom op, etc. then please give me a hollar and make the check payable to St. Judes. My contact info is listed in my profile. I figure this is one way for me to give back. Thanks, Michael
Blas Kisic
Great initiative, Michael! Sadly, I can't imitate you at the moment –for obvious financial reasons– but hopefully next year. Happy holidays, BK

Jesper Magnusson
Really nice. I hadn't thought about giving in this way, and I could definately see myself doing something very similar in the future, so thanks for the idea. Great initiative, and I hope you'll get tons of work! Thanks, Michael That'a great idea! Very commendable. I hope you are not actually asking production companies to directly make out checks to the hospital, right? That would be bad. It should go to you, then on to the hospital
studiomprd
" It should go to you, then on to the hospital " maybe! (speak with your tax professional)
Michael Miramontes
....It should go to you, then on to the hospital Why?
Michael Miramontes
(speak with your tax professional) I thought I was a tax professional.
Jesse Flaitz
Why? Because then it becomes a tax deductible donation?
Constantin
Because then it becomes a tax deductible donation?yes, that's what I thought. Mostly, it shouldn't become a tax deductible donation for the production company. But, as Senator pointed out, as usual there are many ifs and buts. And I'm not a tax adviser. Michael Miramontes
Jesse and Constantin, Yes, I realize it will be a tax deductible donation for the production company and not for myself. But, this isn't about me. If by "giving" the production company an incentive then maybe they'll be more inclined to find a reason to pick me up for an extra day or two during the month, in which case the kids/families at the hospital will ultimately benefit from. So you see, everyone wins if the check is made out directly to the hospital.

Just wanted to make sure, and didn't want to side-track from your brilliant selfless idea!
Michael Miramontes
I appreciate all the kind words everyone. Thanks
aginzo
That is a very cool idea and a really selfless act. I wish I could sacrifice a gig to give. I do already donate to St. Judes in my own small way when I can (Through donations at Publix and I think at participating CVS. We also send money at the end of the year.). However, I have 2 little babies (3 and 8 months), 2 dogs and a cat at home that my wife and have to keep fed . I also, don't write off these donations all the time. Mostly because I don't think it's always about financial gain in a donation. It's about the help you can give to those in need. That deserves an atta boy Mike!!! Ze Frias
This is truly altruistic of you Michael. It's inspired me, and I will certainly follow in your footsteps and do the same from now on. May that which you give so selflessly, be given back to you tenfold. Cheers, and happy holidays!
