aristotle_kumpis
I've been sound designing for many years now, as a hobby. I mostly use synths and also record ambient FX too. Does anyone know how this side of the industry works? If a television or film project needs some unique sound, whether it's ambient FX or synthesized, do they use outside contractors? Or do they just use their in house post team to do that?

Bondelev
Sometimes they do. It would benefit you to do networking with post facilities if you want to create relationships with them.
dfisk
As the senator says "it depends". I've been involved on sound effects recording shoots as a contractor and as an in house person. It really depends on budget.
bleueblancrouge
find a sound post house and offer yourself as an intern. you'll quickly find out how things are done.
