RadoStefanov
Back in the days I was not happy that I had to carry a mixer and a recorder. The extra weight, space and power did not make sense to me. I was talking about the idea to have a 552 like devices with integrated 5 ISO recording and a time code generator. One mixer/recorder unit. So when the nomad was released first I jumped in right away. I continued trying to achieve the lightest, smallest and simplistic sound package. I found many other things bothering me. Cable management. The way the wireless receivers seam to never fit nice and stable in a bag and the fact that past few years I find my self using the same configuration 90% of the time, led me to the idea of all in one mixer/recorder/wireless/antenna distro unit. After many modification, trials and errors I got to the design bellow. One unit that can easily drop in a bag or on the cart without rewiring every single piece of gear. This is still work in progress. Disclaimer : MIGHT VOID WARRANTY!!! I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU DAMAGE YOUR NOMAD!!!!! This is my NOMAD/ZAXCOM WIRELESS MOD! Used tap drill to attach the QRX mount. Might add thermal material in the summer if I get heat issues. Also will replace TA5 with right angle TA5. I am very happy with the simplicity and small size. Just need to modify a bag and place a NP1 distro/cup combo.
vale
That's pretty much the way I went with my Fusion/QRX setup: I'm very happy with this configuration, because the only thing I have to plug/unplug moving between cart and bag is the power cable. Very good idea to use the original QRX mount. I have to check if three in a row could match the Fusion width. v.
mikefilosa
Rado - Absolutely top-notch excellent work - this is going to inspire a lot of people. I'm curious about your power scheme, and overall power consumption - of course mileage will vary with respect to the channels of wireless at play. Beautiful job.... Ze Frias
Said it before, and will say it again: beautiful work. This is certainly something I will draw inspiration from in the future.

Derek H
Looks to me like a right angle adapter DB on the Nomad and a straight DB combined. Rado, I doubt you will have heat issues as the holder keeps a few mm of air gap surrounding the receiver but if you did you could have Zaxcom send you the perforated case they use with the QIFB option models. That said, I've never had my QRXQIFB crash, even when stuffed into a fanny pack with little ventilation.
johnpaul215
This is awesome. Funny thing is if you have QRX200, it's not like you would need to swap out RXs for block changes like other people do.
RadoStefanov
I hope it does not overheat. I have used the same configuration "even with qrx100qifb " attached with Velcro in 115f + weather. As Derek said the qrx mount has a little opening that lets air go trough. If I have any problems I will just stick some thermal material on the Nomad.
RadoStefanov
Can you post a photo / link of the DB15 connector you are using. Will post when I get to my office. the DB15 connector I use is a cheap plastic one from frys. The righ angle connecror is what makes the setup more compact. Ze Frias
Rado, I see you have given up the micplexer, it does not really help you? I think the new XR modulation makes up for the lack of a micplexer.
Malcolm Davies Amps CAS
v Rado I'm intrigued by the little black box in your photo. I can see it has a 15 way sub D plug in the bottom of it but what is on the end of the box which appears to fasten onto the machine. I'm working in an idea and this might just fit the bill.
