iMix
Not sure where to post this in the forum, but does anyone use a great pop up enclosed sound tent? I'm about to buy the Village Blackout tent, like most the DIT's use...its super easy to setup/takedown with one person, is fully enclosed, and protects the gear from harsh elements. They are built do blackout (not really needed for me), but are also very tough and resilient. Just curious if there are other options out there to consider before dropping $1500 for a tent... Richard Lightstone, CAS
I was checking these tents out - a wide selection of sizes and prices are comparable to Village Blackout. Pop N' Works http://www.popnwork.com/
RPSharman
4-person Ice shanty! http://www.amazon.com/Navy-Blue-Portable-4-Person-Fishing/dp/B00G9FMJKO/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1395890091&sr=8-4&keywords=4+person+ice+shelter Amazon $179 I have similar ones. Not waterproof, but water resistant and good with wind.
Matt Langley
I've used an Ice Fishing tent to keep snow and ice off me and the gear. Sets up quickly and has tie-downs for windy conditions. They range in price starting around $100 and up to $600. The one I use was about $200, it keeps the snow away. The windows are only Velcroed in so the rain might come in around the seems. I'd imagine that the more expensive ones are built with better fabric and more waterproof.
iMix
Hmmmm, good to know there are a couple options. After looking at the ice tents and the amazon tent, I worry about the durability of those lighter weight tents. Granted they are much cheaper which makes them almost expendable...may be a trial and error to see if they are worthy of the Louisiana elements... A buddy just text me who saw the post to tell em about PELSUE tents...anyone have any experience?
RPSharman
Pelsue are great. Also expensive.

Diego Sanchez
With the ice shelters, how convenient/inconvenient is the little triangle door?
johngooch
Love my pop and work tent. Easy to set up- two doors- HI ceiling- i an get my cart in with my antenna mast still attached. Holds the heat in well.
RPSharman
With the ice shelters, how convenient/inconvenient is the little triangle door? You can't wheel in an out, obviously. Pop up the tent and lift it over the gear. No big deal. The little zipper door is convenient for poking your head out just enough for everyone to be reminded of how much they hate you for being warm. fieldmixer
I'm calling this one the sound shelter. Bit small, more for a bag setup, but hey what do you want for 30$ http://www.leevalley.com/en/garden/page.aspx?p=71396&cat=52&ap=

But after we cut a couple leg holes in the floor and clip it to our harnesses, it will be perfect. Great find. Thanks!
chrisnewton
Hey Marc, maybe they could incorporate a "Cone of Silence" option. this tent kind of reminds me of the scene in Spinal Tap, where the bass player gets stuck in the "egg". all kidding aside, might be useful in mosquito season. hey,$30 canadian, thats about 50 cents in USD these days. fieldmixer
Hi Chris, Indeed! a tent like this would end Up a set joke immediately. Make a mistake, get sent for a time-out in the shelter for 5 minutes.

iMix
Pelsue has soooo many models...having a hard time deciding on what will work best. Also, is the only way to get a price to call the maufacturer?

Also, is the only way to get a price to call the maufacturer? Pro Sound NY carries them... Mine was around $500.00 I opted for the 6506 "A" 70" x 70" A friend has an older one, said he had it for well over 10 years... still works perfectly... greg sextro
Most of the soundos in NY use pelsues. Myself included. Kinda wish they made a model that wasn't bright yellow/white, but they work well all the same.

Kinda wish they made a model that wasn't bright yellow/white, but they work well all the same. I have a 6x6 pelsue in black. I love the thing. I asked how much it would cost to re-skin it (as it's starting to show its 10+ years), I was quoted something in the $700 range (ouch!). I don't think they stock these any longer. I've seen black pelsues since. Somatic go for about double the cost of the white, new
Matthias Richter
I have recommanded these in a previous tent thread: http://m.ebay.de/itm/151257790865?nav=SEARCH I've got one in yellow/white and the Camouflage one too.
Matthias Richter
And this one for the quick rain protection or when I don't have enough space: http://m.ebay.de/itm/130922593572?nav=SEARCH
BudRaymond
I own a 10x10 Pelsue and it is awesome. Extremely well made and it's only starting to show its age after 2 years of regular service on set. Get the zippered door. The -D models have clasps instead of zippers for joining multiple tents together. Also, I think the 8x8 will be my next size. The 10x10 is nice and spacious but it's BIG. Yes, they're expensive but you do get what you pay for. During the summer months in Atlanta I have a portable A/C unit which exhausts through the built-in hose port. Jim Gilchrist
The 8 X 8 Pelsue definitely keeps you warmer on chilly days without a heater. Both the 8 and 10 foot sizes are superb in heavy rain. Best regards, Jim
Phil Palmer
8x8 Pelsue was one of the best purchases I've ever made. I've had mine 10 years now with regular use. It looks it's age, but it keeps me dry and warm. You get what you pay for. PWP
