Nick Ray Harris
Hey Guys, I recently discovered a lightweight plastic modular toolbox that fits perfectly in a magliner jr with a shelf. Which is exactly what I was looking for. $100 http://www.keter.com/products/drawers-7-tool-chest Pros: 2 of the 3 included sections fit under the backstage magliner shelf. Locking Sections are modular and they lock together Lightweight, easy for me to disassemble and throw in the back of my car Includes removable dividers and small parts containers Cons: Plastic, feels a little fisher-pricey. Drawers latch hard and require some muscle to open, which can be an issue considering how light it is, so its not as smooth as a metal tool box. Lightweight, needs to be strapped down to the cart to keep in place. Haven't put it through a long field test, I update once it gets some miles on it. mikefilosa
Nick - This looks great! I like the modularity - sort of a less expensive version of the Festool stuff. Did you get the 7 Drawer version? The website seems to indicate lotsa options... MF
ElanorR
This looks great. Where did you buy it? When I clicked the "where to buy" link on their website, it said " not available in your country" (USA).
Nick Ray Harris
I ended up getting it from a seller on Ebay, It seems Sam's Club and a few other people sell them in stores. But not every location. The only option I could find is with 3 units, 1 with the three small drawers and two units with two drawers. Definitely potential for options but their site was not helpful at all. I'd recommend finding it in store, the one I got had cracks in it from shipping. It's still usable and the seller refunded me, but the packaging does not seem meant for getting kicked around by UPS. More like for sitting on a pallet in big box stores. mikefilosa
Nick - Couple of questions for you - 1 - do the drawers seem to shut and latch closed with a modicum of security ? 2 - is it thick enough? do you think the plastic will be brittle or possibly crack in cold weather times ? Per your thread here, I'm looking into one of these myself ! And I respect your assessment - Whatcha think? MF
Michael Panfeld
what are the internal dimesnions of the drawers? been looking for a drawer where I can plop in a divider from a Pelican 1550.
Nick Ray Harris
Mike, The drawers close with almost too much security, and there's a locking switch on the side. I feel like the outside frame is too thin, much thinner than say a pelican case. The one I bought had cracks in it from shipping. I don't know off hand of the interior dimensions, I'll have to measure, but I think it's smaller than the 1550. Typical size of a tool box drawer. Alex Riordan
This is my latest drawer solution for my aux cart. For a long time I had toyed with other options. Metal tool chests were too heavy. I tried rack cases w/ SKB drawers but felt they were a waste of space. I have been using these plastic office drawers in my shop and decided to give them a try and they have been great. Lightweight, nice size drawers, good use of space and surprisingly durable. Not all plastic drawers are created equal!

Michael Panfeld
Alex: nice and visually neat. What brand and model are these? Thanks
Alex Riordan
Thanks guys. The funny thing is, I built this in a hurry two years ago for a tv show I didn't expect to get and it's worked great ever since. I knew I wanted to have as much gear w/ us as possible. I had no time to do a 8020 or custom welded cart (there are some awesome carts on this site!). I came close to building a senior magliner but decided that would be too long so I took my old aux cart and went up. It's a junior magliner 24x36 (Backstage). I bought a senior handle and a 40" nose. I tried a bunch of different drawer combinations till I decided on this height. It is extremely light and can hold a ton of gear. The only down side is now it's too tall to roll into my Dodge cargo van built. So the cart gets folded up and strapped to my shelf in the van. The drawers are light enough even fully stocked to be picked up by one person. I did build it using quick release pins so it comes apart pretty quickly and easily. While I mainly use this when I'm on a show / camera truck I have used it day playing on 2nd unit. I generally don't bother with it on commercials. Alex Riordan
Oh my bad, you probably mean the drawers. They are made by Iris. They are an older style but still available at some stores. I got them at OfficeMax, Depot or Staples. One of the stores has their own name brand now and are not as sturdy in my opinion.
