jawharp
Hey Guys, Doing a car scene tomorrow and I'll be mixing from a follow van. I was thinking of powering my venue system off of my IDX Lithium Ion NP-L7S batteries. It's a regular rack mount venue system, not a VR Field if that makes a difference power wise. We should be in that car for a couple hours. I was wondering if anyone had done this before and knows what kind of runtime to expect from each battery. Thanks, Joe
RPSharman
They use about 1.3 amps at 14v. The battery is 14v 4.6aH. So, I'd guess "a couple of hours" would be ok. If that gets closer to 3 hours, give or take, you'd be getting dangerous. Others here have better knowledge of this stuff, but it's how I understand it. John Blankenship
4.6 divided by 1.3 equals about 3.5 (hours, in this case). YMMV due to several factors, but basic math will get you pretty close.
BAB414
Really basic question but how does the math work out if the battery voltage differs from what the gear requires? For example if the fully charged battery metered in at say 16volts in the above example. Is it (16/14) x (4.6/1.3) = 4.04 hours? RPSharman
Your math seems logical, but keep in mind that batteries don't stay at 16v, and environmental conditions and cabling and age of battery, etc., all affect performance. JonG
I use a Sound Guys Solutions double NP cup and one of their BDS systems as a makeshift cart power setup powering a Venue, SD 302, and a Lectro um100. I get about 7 hours off of two IDX NPL7Ss. You can see my configuration under the rats nest of cables below:
