cinetj
This is happening recently. I detach the external battery overnight and then the next morning I get this message at startup, something like "rtc chip settings" (I couldn't read it all). Time and date info are gone. For the rest of the day, the recorder functions properly. I have a Nomad 8, firmware version 4.45.
Jack Norflus
You need to change the internal battery. It is fairly easy to do - all you need is a screwdriver and 10 minutes.
jason porter
And a new battery

cinetj
Thank you, Jack. What kind of battery is this? Can I find it easily?
Jack Norflus
CR 2320 - 3volt battery. It should be fairly easy to source at a radio shack or a watch repair place.

cinetj
Thank you, Jack! Thank you, Mark! As soon as I get back to Rio, I'll try to find one of those. I still have two weeks on the road, in the middle of nowhere before that.
aff
this is in the manual... Not the one I have. What is in the manual are instructions on how to change the internal AA batteries, not the CR2320. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk not how to change it, but when to change and the battery type is in the manual
aff
I stand corrected. You are right. I looked extra carefully through every page and found this on page 40. "NOTE: Nomad contains an internal battery that keeps accurate time even if Nomad is powered down for an extended time. The internal battery should last between two to three years. When replacing the battery you will need a 3 volt CR2320 coin cell battery." It would be helpful if it was also included in the specs at the end of the manual, the first place I go to for this type of info. But thank you for pointing it out! RPSharman
I keep a few button batteries in my kit at all times. Several each of the most common ones. They're small and cheap, and you never know when you're going to need one.
Masaki Hatsui
Jack: " easy to source " drugstore (photo counter)... Not sure in US, but here in Europe, the CR2320 model battery is not so commun in drugstore. CR2032 is easy to find but not this exact model (though both are teh same 3V). studiomprd
yep, there are plenty variations... sometimes a substitution is possible...
hiro nakamura
I just changed the battery, easy to do, but messed up the screws, some longer ones and some pretty short. Opened it, took out the battery to show the sample to the hardware store, they ordered it from somewhere else. Wait a bit, but all good. Jack Norflus
Yes you need to note where the longer screws go.
