workingsound
Hi there, doing a job on a Panasonic GH4 camera and just wondered if anyone has plugged audio into one and is there anything to watch out for I'm coming out of my SD788T and having to go into the GH4 on a Minijack as that is all there is. The audio on the camera is only a guide track but be good to know of any possible problems. Many thanks

RScottATL
If they set the bitrate to the highest setting, it will show audio levels fine and the moment they roll on the camera, there is NO audio! The camera disables audio at the highest (I think 100mbps) setting. On the first interview I did with one of these, the camera guy starts freaking out and points to me and says I'm not getting any audio. I told him nothing changed since we toned the camera. Finally he figures out its his toy camera that is incapable if getting audio at that bitrate. Do a roll & playback test before the first shot of the day. Will Youngman
Tell them to spring for the pro io backpack I would do that and feed it time code and have them batch sync the dailies. Resolve LIte does this along with MC and even premiere can use time code one clip at a time. Main reason I am Interested in this camera is that fact that you can turn it into a "Production" camera with the module when you need too with real connectors and TC. workingsound
Thanks guys. The shoot's tomorrow so I will have a play and let you know. Its all being Digi Slated anyway so I'm not that worried but be good to get it right. I will try and find out about the bitrate. Out of interest does it have an internal mic if you don't plug anything into the mic input?
Olle Sjostrom
Out of interest does it have an internal mic if you don't plug anything into the mic input? Man I wish there was some way to look stuff like that up instead of having to wait for someone to answer a post on a board... There should be like a bar you could enter text in, and like... Seek information through..
Rich Reilly
Not 100% on this but I believe the only mode that disables audio recording is variable frame rate under Full HD/100. It's conceivable the operator had the VFR mode enabled even without raising or lowering the frame rate. One thing that's interesting on this unit is ability to monitor live throughput or actual recording of audio, albeit with a bit of latency. Rich Reilly
Book learnin' vs hands on, sir. Manuals are not always 100% clear.
