Joe Riggs
I have a sound effect that has a metal like sound, I like to minimize that metallic sound to make sound more dull, or take away the harsher metal sounds, which audio filter would be best suited to accomplish this? This is akin to the sound http://www.pond5.com/sound-effect/8593621/boltloosenscrew-s011in59.html Thanks
soundslikejustin
Wrap the sound in a pillow, then re-record it. Or, more seriously, EQ. Take the freq that 'rings' out, and a general top end chop and you'll get a 'duller' sound.
Jay Rose
The other thing that makes a sound metallic is a combing. I'm not sure what causes it physically in the metal object, but it's very similar to a steady flange or mixed short delay. In fact, that's the classic way to make a robot voice. So there are going to be a lot of frequencies to take out. How about something like Zynaptiq's Unfilter?
dfisk
I've always found it easier to build the sound I want rather than to take an existing one and try and make it work.
