vitekcz
Hi, I wanted to ask, if someone has tried to wash old windjammer to renew it. (for Zeppelin) I have one old windjammer which I used in rain forest, winter condition etc. So now it's tangled and doesn't work well. I want to try put it in washmachine (low temperature, short programe) Anyone try it before? I already bought a new one, but want a give a change to old one and keep it as a spare. If it is some way how to recover it. Thank you.
RPSharman
It'll never work as well, but could be a spare in the rain. I'd try brushing it out before I'd try washing it.
MRWsound
Available direct from Rycote's website What is the best way to clean a Softie and/or Windjammer? A. Both Softies and Windjammers are supplied with a Hair Brush, customers often think that we are joking by including this; but it is actually very important to keep the synthetic fibers as free from tangles as possible to ensure the best possible performance from our products. Softies should be dry brushed thoroughly to remove as much dirt and debris as possible, and to remove any matting that may occur. You should never submerge your Softie in water as this may damage the product.
afewmoreyears
Wash mine all the time.... They come out beautiful.... Woolite.. Hand wash warm water....do not wring out but use quick motions with your arm to remove excess water.... Hang on a stick or bush an let dry....lightly brush out with the rycote brush.... Better than new....

Lucas
Coincidentally, yesterday I had a first in a lifetime experience with a bird pooping on my windshield (not the fur). It smelt pretty bad the rest of the day, after the incident close booming had a certain cons... At the end of the day a soft toothbrush did the trick. (just in case it might happen to any of you)
Rick Reineke
I've hand washed my Softie and Softie Windjammer in cold water, let it drip dry and brushed it out. No problems as far as I can tell. It had gotten a lot of dried dirt/crap on it, otherwise I would have just brushed it.
Lancashire soundie
Shampoo. As for smelly microphones, I have a cat who likes to catch mice. The foam shield for my mkh60 happened to be lying in the hallway for a few days. Anyway, came the time to put it back on and go on a job, I noticed the mic sounded as dull as hell. So I whipped it off and found a dead mouse in there. It must have crawled in to escape the cat, and like a lobster trap, been unable to get back out. The smell was horrific. It took a good few months for the stench of rotting flesh to leave that microphone.

jonathan chiles
Anyone notice the synthetic fur of the newer Rycote windjammers seems to tangle and mat much quicker than the old windjammers? Seems to me like quality is not as good. My old windjammers look better and more fluffy and have been used way more.
