Jeff Wexler
I was watching a YouTube video of Louden Wainwright and Richard Thompson had a little box connected to the upper end of the neck of the guitar. I had no idea what it was until I saw it changing and reading out what appears to be the notes or chords: "E", "Am", "C", etc. Does anyone know what this box actually is? Will Youngman
Its a clip on tuner. It reads the vibrations through the neck to tell what the note is as compared to a microphone.
brennanward
Indeed, a clip-on tuner. They work surprisingly well. I've always used the little Snark tuners - Small, cheap and effective. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00646MZHK/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_1?pf_rd_p=1535523722&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B001OAN43U&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1XB4X4T460PCD7WGE50G

old school
It is Mick. I own 5 Ukes because I'm crazy..... for them and their sound. These pix are of a Harmonia. It is an odd uke but I love it's sound. CrewC
JonG
Sounds like Crew has the same tastes in instruments as the late Mr. Harrison.

Jim Feeley
David, that's cool. I'm going to watch your film tonight. I kinda dig ukes (as as you know better than me, there seems to be a good East Bay uke scene). I toy with the idea of building stringed instruments when I retire ("retire"...hah!). So I dreambrowse at sites like this: http://www.lmii.com (Also know some real luthiers so I'm not getting carried away with what I can pull off as a hobbyist). Just watched the first two minutes of your film. Nice... Looking forward to the rest.

old school
Thanks David. It looks great. I can't hear a thing on set because we are making rain and the pumper trucks and condors are louder than should be allowed. I can't wait to see it again tonight in my home studio. Very cool. Mick
Crew, just for kicks I'll e mail you a copy of my father in law's album (CD) that we recorded in my home studio a few years back. He's a Hawaiian virtuoso uke player as well as a slack key guitarist of some 60 plus years. i can't tell you how much fun and music we've made over the years and will continue to do so while he's still with us. (78) Add to that my wife's beautiful hula skills and you can imagine some of the fine evenings we've had singing and dancing. Good times. Without music there's nothing left IMHO. Mick Send me a PL email address.

Watched it last night. Nice work, David. Say, at 21:31 is that a cameo by a JWS regular? Or do we all look the same when wearing black fleece and setting a mic? OmahaAudio
Does anyone know what this box actually is? guitar-tuner.jpg There are a bunch of them on the market (http://www.premierguitar.com/articles/10_Clip-On_Guitar_Tuners_You_Should_Use ) I like this one (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/snark-sn-1-guitar-bass-tuner).
