Quickie domain name question

Jay Rose

Recommended Posts

I may have the opportunity to sell my dplay.com domain name for a reasonable amount, to a European broadcaster for their VOD service. We'd run parallel for a very short while, but then I'd have to move elsewhere.

I started dplay.com years ago as my studio's site, but over the years it's morphed into a tutorial and info resource (the studio's still there, but the site isn't where I get my business).

My question:

In your opinion, should I relocate to:

www.dplay.info  --  keeping the name, sort of, though people would still have to Google to find it

or

www.jayrose.com  --  which might be easier for people who are looking for my tutorial stuff

I don't know if the former will be more confusing or less...

(Both those URLs currently redirect to dplay.com. If I move to jayrose.com, I'd throw the dplay.info into the broadcaster's deal.)

Unless you plan to do an about face, turn nasty, and besmirch the (currently well-regarded) name of Jay Rose, I'd definitely vote for that.

John, I have been careful to maintain a gentlemanly, almost courtly online persona (except for frequent corny jokes). There's enough nastiness on the Web; I figured I could stand out more by being nice.

And then I found jwsound, where almost everybody is nice. Or at least, reasonable. So I have to keep it up now.

Thanks to all who've replied. I guess the consensus is obvious.

As an aside to the main question asked and it now seems is answered, I'd suggest to sound workers everywhere, that we are all 'Brands" in this day and age and it's useful to understand that. JW is a brand. So is Mike Michaels. As is Jay.  We all start out as unknown brands. Time and experience bolster the image of us. In advertising, image is everything and it builds and defines a "Brand". Smart Companies, Dumb Companies all know it pays to control your Brand and message. As a Brand myself, I'd suggest to newer brands the importance of doing good work + not being short sighted/stupid + having fun as you do your part of any project ='s a strong brand as time goes by. None of us will ever be Coke or Pepsi, but we will all have reputations. Take care of yours.

Now back to our regular programing....

Al, I jumped on JayRose.com a few years ago, when I learned that the previous owners -- a bra and girdle shop in Brooklyn -- was closing.

I also own JayRoseSound.com, since that was the name of my Boston multi-studio complex in the 70s and 80s.

Both currently redirect to dplay.com...  but if this sale happens, I'll make JayRose.com the new server.
