kstrahm
Hi guys, so I have grand plans to build a cart soon, moving from bag w/ whips setup to a cart system with antennas. Very confused about antenna design and have so many questions! Is there a 'how to', antenna system primer, or antenna 101 link somewhere on JW? If so I'd appreciate a link thanks! Here's some of the equipment I'd like to use: Recorder would be the Zaxcom Nomad 10. I want to use the Zaxnet for ERX's as camera hops. Do I need a Bluefin? Can any antenna in the correct freq. work? I know I would need a BNC to SMA cable, how long should this cable be? I currently use two Lectrosonics 411A transmitters but will be expanding to four soon so plan to pickup a UMCWB 4 Channel Multi-Coupler to house the four units. What antennas go best with this unit? Dipole? Shark fins? Do I need two or is one enough? And again, what sort of cabling and what length of cables should I use? Last but not least the Comtek system. Is a Mini-Mite 1/2 wave antenna enough? Like I said, SO many questions! Ha. Hoping there is an antenna 101 link out here somewhere! Thanks for ALL your help. Jeff Wexler
"I want to use the Zaxnet for ERX's as camera hops. Do I need a Bluefin? " Zaxnet is 2.4 ghz --- you need a 2.4ghz antenna if you don't want to use the Nomad's whip antenna. "I currently use two Lectrosonics 411A transmitters but will be expanding to four soon so plan to pickup a UMCWB 4 Channel Multi-Coupler to house the four units. What antennas go best with this unit? Dipole? Shark fins?" Any log periodic ("shark fin") type antenna will work --- you need 2 for diversity reception. "Last but not least the Comtek system. Is a Mini-Mite 1/2 wave antenna enough?" There are many antenna systems for Comtek --- the supplied whip or the Mini-Mite, either will work.

studiomprd
Hi, and welcome ks: " Is there a 'how to', antenna system primer, " I have mentioned before the ARRL antenna book http://www.arrl.org/shop/ARRL-Antenna-Book-22nd-Edition/ antennae (sic) are often discussed here, as you should have noticed in the last 11.5 months since you signed up here... kstrahm
It's strange that searching for key words like 'antenna' or 'antenna system' or 'cart antennas' does not yield good results on here, hence my post. Thanks for the link. I'll post a thread and photos of my antenna setup after I build it, to help the next person.
studiomprd
ks: " searching for key words like 'antenna' or 'antenna system' or 'cart antennas' does not yield good results on here, " despite site search improvements attempted, I still advise searching with Google, and using jwsoundgroup.net as the first search term.
