VASI
The new version of Mackie mixers; VLZ4, wear some of the best mic preamps for that price. Extremely low noise, high headroom, good amount of auxiliaries (depend the model), good freq. response. The only bad "feature" is the AC power and size. I have used the small one (1202VLZ4). I would be happy to buy one. Only 395€ (incl. VAT and free shipping from Thomann).
studiomprd
Vas: " the only bad "feature" is the AC power and size. " that is pretty subjective, and probably not applicable to the target market.
Philip Perkins
It would work just fine with one of the analog input versions of the JoeCo. As you know, in cheap-mixer-speak a 24 input mixer is really a 20 input mixer with 2 extra stereo line inputs, usually without inserts or as much EQ and as many sends as inputs 1-20. So with this rig if you really needed 24 mic pres you are 4 short, and would have to use sends or etc to communicate with the JoeCo for inputs 21-4. For this reason I ended up buying a "32 input" console (in my case Yamaha, and now for sale) for use with my JoeCo so I had 24 full-feature XLR w/ mic pre etc inputs, plus all the other line inputs etc. The latter have proved very useful on complex jobs for routing of montoring, running a sound system etc etc. The simplest JoeCO setups use the insert points of an analog board with the looms JoeCo sells (TRS to DB25). philp
thope
Joeco have now provided 24 mic pre's available with a breakout loom or 2ru breakout box http://www.joeco.co.uk/main/BBR1MP_introduction.html
