smicycle
Is an older Sennheiser ew100 g2 compatible with a sk 100 g3 or ew100 g3? Don't ask me why I need to know this, the answer is too embarrassing. -Mike (Professional Idiot)
shug
Ew G2 and ew G3 work together.
Rick Reineke
Yes they are compatible providing they are in the same frequency block... for the most part anyway. The G3 frequency block range is slightly wider. For instance the G2 'A' block range is 518 to 554 MHz; the G3 is 512-556 MHz. The pilot tone and companding is compatible. studiomprd
Hi, and welcome Smicycle: " Don't ask me why I need to know this, the answer is too embarrassing. " I don't think we care why you need to know (like maybe you are going to mix G2 and G3 components in some systems)... but why couldn't you figure that out from the Senn information that the three (so far) generations of Evolution Wireless systems are cross compatible although the "pilot" function is not available on the original series...? smicycle
Thanks for the info Rick! And for also not being a dick about it! Thanks for the warm welcome senator! I am honored to have incurred your snark on this, my first ever post. I was hoping this might slip by unnoticed, alas it was not to be. I believe I'll return to lurking. I guess I couldn't figure that out because the Sennheiser compatibility page (on their website) did not list them as compatible. I figured I was done figuring. But then I figured that maybe someone on this here website, a bastion of knowledge for the location sound community and true friend to the neophyte, might have insights regarding the compatibility of these two units. So I came to this forum seeking said insights, and also if someone could also be kind of an asshole while providing those insights, all the better. You, sir, have delivered! Kudos! Ugh, Mike All Figured Out
chrisnewton
Just watch out for the incompatible cable wiring for line ins to the transmitter (if you are using the unit this way). G3s need a different wiring than the G2. check this forum for details. Otherwise the 2 models work well together. menus are a bit different. Ugh, Mike All Figured Out Internet forums can be daunting sometimes, but also extremely useful. Don't be afraid to ask questions-- that's what these places are for. And I think you'll find that on this forum in particular that you'll find a lot of nice knowledgeable folks who are willing to help out. And the occasional comment from the peanut gallery, of course. Also, there are older sennheiser evolution series than g2s that are incompatible with the others (that are sometimes mistakes for g2s on first glance)
Constantin
Also, there are older sennheiser evolution series than g2s that are incompatible with the others (that are sometimes mistakes for g2s on first glance) Which ones are that? G1? Of all the sennheiser evolution wireless G's these do look really different from the others. The transmitters at least. The stationary receivers really do look fairly similar in all 3 generations. And they are all mostly compatible to each other and that includes the various numbers, too, up to the 2000 series. As Senator said, G1 doesn't have the pilot tone. So if you use a G1 tx and a G2/3 rx you need to switch off the pilot on the latter
studiomprd
Thanks, Constantin. the original Evolution series wireless packs look different and take 9V batteries.
